Okay I want to start a book club in my area. I love to read and I would just love to be able to read a book and share my thoughts with others with similar interests. Is anyone here a member of a book club like this. Can you help give me some ideas of how to get one started? Any and all help would be great.

I would love to start one as well but I life in a very small community where most of the people interested are females who like romance drama type novels. Even though The Earth Childern Series is one of my fav. I tend to be interested in horror/fantasy books more and there aren't many here who would like to go. But I did talk to my local librarian (AMAZING GUY!!)who always sends away for the books I want and he would have let me have a time slot free for one. People who give donations for coffee/tes supplies. I am in a small area and it is real friendly in that way. But if your in a too big area to get a place, I would start with getting your friends to come over and discuss what books will be on the reading list and they can get their friends to come and stuff. I would love to have one too. It would be fun. Good luck! Vicki

Thanks for sharing. I think I may have the same problem. The town I live in isn't that big, so I don't know that I would have a lot of people interested. I even thought of starting on online. Like a yahoo group. I could gather a list of books everyone would be interested in reading and then after we have read a book. We could discuss it on the group. But again I don't know how I would go about promoting it and getting members to join.

Hi Speedy, Why don't you give http://www.librarything.com a try. It is an online community for book lovers with forums and reviews. Not only does it allow you to catalog your book collection online, it is also free to join. I am a member of librarything.com and i enjoyed being part of the book community there. Hope you find the info useful.

Hi there Ms. Speedy, A BOOK CLUB What a Brilliant idea ? I have some scattered suggestions, I hope they help: 1) I guess a Book Club must have a theme. You know because you're not starting a library in which you may include all sorts of books. Let us say your theme is novels, cook books, history or whatever comination of topics you want 2 provide your custromers with. 2) Decoration is important. The place must be suitable and adequate for reading and relaxing. You may spend a few bucks on an interior decoration expert but he'd give u a place whose atmosphere is attracting and never forgettable. 3) Wireless internet service is a good idea. Anyone could carry his laptop and just spends a few minutes or maybe hours in ur Book Club. 4) A Book Club by itself may not attract a large sector of the people in your neighbourhood, so why not making it a Cafe ??? a Book Cafe where you serve ur customers simply, coffee, and donuts or you could have a deal with a pastry and sandwich provider who'll make a fresh daily delivery over to you. The logic behind that is people always love coffee, they always eat donut, they would always go for a club or roast beef sandwich, if you can make your place decorated in such a way that it looks like a classy and friendly large living room where your customers could lean back on a lovely sofa, grab a book of their choice and enjoy a simple snack, damn that would be great. 5) Include a Kid's Corner in your Book Cafe. Don't forget kids, if a mom came over to your Cafe with her kids why not include a kid's corner where they find Archie, Jughead, Superman, Batman bla bla bla editions. That's all I've got now Ms. Speedy ........ Very nice post and thank you very very very much
