As some of you know I have a website that is just sitting there. I don't advertise it or anything cause it needs a HUGE overhaul!!
I was thinking of doing Ebay to sell my crafts but it seems so complicated that I have never done so. Plus all those FEES!! Eeekkk!!!!
Anywho; today I took a look at Etsy and it seems so incredibly reasonable. It also seems much less complicated than Ebay.
So I am asking all of you; should I go ahead and try Etsy? Should I do Ebay? Should I do both? Should I just give up on my website (it is on a free host and someone told me they don't like the advertisements)?
I just don't know anymore. My life is a mess right now and I need to get it together. This is just one more thing in my mess to deal with.
Thanks for your replies!

I have been doing ebay for a while and the fees are getting outrageous. It's not really as complicated as it looks, though. Just be sure to read all the rules before you start, if that's what you choose to do. They have lots of information to help you out.
I have tried selling crafts on ebay, my own and others, but they just do not really sell well there for some reason, maybe buyers aren't sure they'll be good quality. I am not familiar with Etsy, I may have to check it out.
You would probably do better with an attractive website that is well-promoted. Check out Yahoo Small Business websites, they are reasonably priced.

Hi maildumpster! I went to your home page and did not see a link to your site. I have no idea what kind of work you do. I sell Tupperware and am in the process of setting up a blog and a yahoo group to promote it. I am inviting women who have businesses and want some promotion to come to my spaces. I will promote you for free. The only thing that I will ask of you is for you to donate a product with the value somewhere around $10-15 one month out of the year for the winner of a contest that I will set up. I am going right now to request you as a friend. If this is something you might be interested in, please private message me. ~Donna

There are so many many people selling hand crafted things or handpainted things on eBay, that I think it is just saturated with stuff. You have to build up a name for yourself and your work to be able to do well there, I think. Never heard of etsy.

Took a quick peek at etsy.com. I see the same problem there as I do with ebay...there are over 68,000 items for sale just in art! with so many items listed, it will make it difficult for people to find your stuff.

I'm just saying, that with so many items listed, people might not ever see your stuff. No one can spend the time to look at 68,000 pieces of artwork. That's what I noticed about my own shopping on eBay. I would look at the stuff "ending today" and there would be pages and pages of it and I never looked at all of the rest. There was just too much!

I tried selling my craft on Ebay, and i did not sell anything. I signed with Etsy awhile back, but never kept it up. I think I listed two items and that was it. I am currently on a mission to add more stuff for the holidays. I think the key is marketing your website. You really need to let people no you are out there.

Hi you are new so I am not reporting you. When you reply to someone you really are supposed to reply with something that is related to what the topic is.
I wish you luck in your endeavors.
