I'd Like To Shake Your Hand!

I've heard a lot of crap lately about how great it would be if we stopped shaking hands. From Paul Harvey to Websites, people are saying that shaking hands spreads diseases and is "invasive". BAH!
Sure, we do transfer germs when we shake hands... so wash your hands a few more times a day! Invasive? The fact that someone is touching you with your permission is now somehow "invasive"?
I'm sorry, but I like the connectivity we have amongst ourselves. The last thing I want is a society where we feel like we need to cover our bodies, head to toe, for fear we might catch something.
Guess what folks, every breath we take, we are breathing in matter that has touched someone else. We're breathing in matter that has passed through other's lungs.
We're all in this together folks... let's not act like we are little isolated islands who should avoid all contact at all costs!

ParaTed2k let me shake your hand for this discussion. People are now trying to avoid any type of human contact, I guess. What happened to the days that a hand shake ment a lot. If people would stop and see how silly and petty they are being this world would be a much better place. Like you said this is a bunch of crap.

True, I was always taught that a good firm handshake was the best way to greet someone!

Well if we have to stop shaking hands then I guess we need to quit handling money. God knows money has got to be one of the most dirty things out there. Oh and we can no longer use our hands to open doors seeing as how someone else has touched it before us. Let's just all live in a bubble. That sounds like a great idea! Are people really getting this germophobic?

Oh I know what you mean. When I was an innercity paramedic I saw plenty of examples of why money is so filthy. People with dried vomit on their cloths and hands... and they hold dollars in those pockets and fingers. ;~D

Lets shake on it. Hand shakes just to be a form of a contract. Gentlemen did not need lawyers they had their word, and their hand fianlized it. Times have changed but a hand shake is still as good as gold.

And think of all of the "togetherness" we collect from handling our currency! There was one of those shows one time showing commercials from other countries. Your post reminded me of a commercial from Australia where instead of shaking hands in greeting, the people in the office were kissing each other. The commercial said it was actually more sanitary. ICK! Can you imagine kissing everyone you met in a day! LOL
