Does Obsession Drive You Crazy

My housemate is cat mad! He talks cats, he watches animal programmes day in day out and he has four cats, we have a small two bed house and he keeps on at me for getting another cat.
He drives me crazy with his obsession, non-stop talking about CATS CATS CATS, don't get me wrong I love cats but there is a limit.
He now spends all his time at home (much to my annoyance) to be with his cats, he goes to the local cattery to volunteer
Ok so that may be very charitable and you're thinking what's wrong with that?
But he talks everyday about getting another cat, I've said NO, but it's driving me crazy.
Our house is full of cat toys (which they don't use) if a cat is on the sofa I can't move him, he reads books on cat pyschology and if I do something wrong he pulls me up about it
He says if he hasn't got his cats he would be suicidal. He doesn't want anyone in his life he just wants his cats
Sometimes I want to scream, I do lose my temper with him. When he starts talking back at the television about how people are treating animals I despair
Do you live with someone who has an obsession that drives you cuckoo?

Hi Wolfie, My dear friend.
You told me once your room mate had a form of autism, right// Just like my son, Kevin. My kevin has an obsession with penguins. He has so many items of penguins in the house it covers his whole room. If he could he would have pet penguins. When I asked him a question. He will answer "penguin" Sometimes I have to get mad at him to get a straight answer. When I say "Thank you for something . His answer is "penguin" When he said Thank you, He says penguin. This kid is 20 years old. If i say anything bad about penguins he and mikey will gang up on me. lol. Mikey protect his little brother lol. It is funny most of the time but once in a while I need a straight answer. PS. I'm glad your back Wolfie. You make me smile !!!

My Son is his Car mad but he never goes on about it or anything like that he looks after it well works on it but there is no such Obsession
I think your Housemate is taking it a bit far there x

Are you sure I'm not your housemate in disguise? No - seriously - I love cats, have 5 of them, and I do voluntary work in a cat sanctuary, AND talk to the TV about cruelty to animals........... Maybe I am obsessed too! LOL! I hope you're keeping well anyway my friend!

my younger brother drives me INSANE with his obsession with his games. He is obsessed with computer and video games...mostly computer games. He will spend hours upon hours on them and gets all piddy if we try to talk to him or ask him to do something. If he had his way, he would never leave the house and would jsut play his games al day and all night...only stop once in awhile to use the restroom or to sleep. He doesn't even stop playing ot eat, he just eats while playing. He also TALKS about the games...as if we care! It drives me absolutely INSANE! He needs to grow up and realize there is more to life than these games. He is almost 20 years old now!

Over dosing on anything is not good. It is having balence in our lives when we are truely happy. It is great to have a cause but when it becomes so obsessive it affects everything around you. Soon he won't be your worry!
Good luck

I know what you mean. I have a friend who is completely obcessed with Reba McEntire. (The country singer). He used to be a lot worse - every conversation had Reba and if he could change a word to include reba - like "rebadiculous" instead of ridiculous, he would. He's toned it down a lot thankfully. But he is still obcessed - has lots of stuff with her on it and sees her in concert whenever he can.

Just listening to you talk about your roommate drives me CRAZY and I am a cat lover. I don't live with anyone that obsessive, my boyfriend can be a bit obessive about Baseball but that is an easy fix, not like living in a house with 4 or more cats. Good luck with that roommate, but if I was you I would put a block on those animal channels to avoid them wanting more to populate your small home.

I haven't got any one completely obsessed but my Sis lately has boyfriend ex psycho girlfriend trouble and it's driving us all nuts..her boyfriend's ex is a complete nutter and we think she can do real damage lol. But I am sure her man is capable of sorting it all out lol. I am just trying to be positive in general and not let it affect me too much but I am offering my Sis as much love and support I can at this difficult time..By the way just put on Urhit that I signed up for the dollar thingy under you lol..Thought that might make your day..

That would tend to get on a person's last nerve and jump up and down....LOL
I guess that I am fortunate...I do not really have o deal with that...
However, there are times...when my hubby can be a bear about the noise in the house between our 5 yr. old and our grandchildren that are living here at this time...when he is trying to watch a movie or documentary on the television....LOL

Yikes! I used to have a bf who was annoyed by everything I did. He whined all the time. And if he wasn't whining, he was screaming at me & calling me every name in the book.
Now I'm single & free & I don't have to put up with any crap from anyone. Thank God!!!

If i were in your place i would have hit him back with 'Enough is enough'.But if he was talking about 'pugs' i would always lend my ears to anyone for that matter. But in a situation like this you seem to be in deep trouble.Must you be becoming a philosopher by now?lol. if its really driving you nuts you need a serious talk with him. Keep your cool though.

He and I would be the best of friends. I love my cats more than I love myself, and in fact would give my life to save any one of them. Just be thankful he doesn't have as many as I do. I never turn a stray away. I have more than 20. If your situation sounding better now? lol
