in the philippines we often use it as an ingredient to some of our stirfried dishes and sometimes they pickle it up as a good side dish for fried foods. it has also been used as a therapeutic tea to lower down diabetes too.
im just wondering if any other countries use them as an ingredient for their food and how do they prepare them or what dishes do they cook with them?

hi gypsy goth! im from the philippines too and i really dont like ampalaya that much. however when my mom stirfries it with egg and tomato, i go crazy and eat it fast! i think its the eggs that make it yummy, hehe! my mom also chooses a young ampalaya so it would be less bitter. and also its softer to bite. and you're right, its also used to lower BLOOD SUGAR levels for diabetics

Yes it's eaten here in my county as a vegetable. It is usually sauteed in garlic, onion and tomato and sometimes beaten egg is added too. There are other dishes where bitter gourd is added as a main ingredient. But do I eat it? the answer is NO...no make that a BIG NO!!!lol.
I really don't know how I came to hate it so much but nobody can make me eat it.

I like to eat bittergourd, though it's bitter. I didn't like it when I was young, but recently I started to like eating it, as I always have to prepare the dish for my husband, and also it's good for health. I usually fry bittergourd with garlic, or sometimes I fried with egg, make it an omelette. I do cook soup with bittergourd too.

Well, I'm not from another country but I sure didn't like ampalaya at first. But now, I have grown to like it as much as ask for it whenever its not on our table during meals... And they've already gave medical advantages from it which makes it more encouraging for me to eat it almost anywhere it is available.. at schools, cafaterias at malls or at home if not at a friends ^_^;
