Your headset have nothing to do with your CPU... If you have a sound card in your CPU then you probably pluged into the wrong lot.

It all depends on whether you are using USB or the older method. If you use a usb cable, you insert the headset while the machine is on. The older one (if you have the other kind, you plug it in when the machine is off. Also many headsets have color coordinated plug ins, and so do the new computer. You have to match the color. So if you did not plug it in using a USB cable, you should have turned the machine off and then put it in. If you use a USB cable, put it in while the machine is running.

Are you sure you have a soundcard? Is it installed properly? Also check your sound settings. It may have been set to mute.
