How can people even say that they "hate americans"? To generalize in that way is just stupid. People might be against the war in Iraq and not agreeing with Bush's politics, they might think that Paris Hilton is a spoiled rich b**** etc. etc. - but neither represent all americans - So people who say they hate americans just expose themselves as narrow minded and not really reflected.

We don't hate American as awhole nation or nationality .I myself find many faults in history committed by America . But I cannot blame the whole nationality for that and for good .
America has been doing many good to the whole world in many forms . I don't think Americans are not harmed by the present global environment . They are also sufferers and we should not be jealous of them .And hatred is never good .

I wouldn't say that poeple hate americans. But I can give a couple of reasons why people dislike the country (bacuase of what it has done). For example invading Iraq..(oil). They made evidence of WMD's and had none. However, Korea have some, and have proven it, but won't do anythig about it. The reason is Korea doesn't have oil!! Pretty obvious. Another reason.. Cutting down the use of harmful substances.. The US has no interest in doing this!! IT costs too much. To me that is insane. Me eed to look after the planet surely? We only have one. There is also a lot of people(american celebs which are seen throughout the world) which have the most bizzare life style and beliefs. For example Tom Cruise. THe guy is a nut. Unfortunatley because of all these things poeple get a very general view of americans and can see many reasons to not like them. Unfortunatley noone is there saying.. Hey! Look what us americans have done for you! Apart from cahnnel 5 in the UK!

I don't hate the Americans just there government and the way their business runs, how they take over things and try to dictate the world. They buy out everything just to make a dollar not because they like it. For example, they bought Kraft who make vegimite and they don't even like the stuff and now have banned it! Also they tried to pattern ug boots which wasn't even their invention.
It seems like its their way or none, we rule the world etc..

It isn't the average American's fault that the corporations do these things. I have heard many american speak out against big-business but if there is no money involved.... big business doesn't listen.

arrogant? Americans?? No way! Just because our government thinks we own the whole universe, (including outer space) believes we are the only country that should have weapons, and takes advantage of everyone and everything it can?

People who say they hate Americans don't know many. Please don't judge us all by the things George W. and others in his administration do. He is definitely not speaking for all Americans. In fact, most people here are opposed to the job he's doing. I am not rich. Maybe by your standards I would seem to be, but the cost of living in America is also very high, and it's difficult to make enough money to live make ends meet. I feel bad when people tell me they hate me just because I'm an American. I'm proud of the accomplishments that my country has made and of the fact that people here like to help others all over the world. I don't like the way our government wants to push it's nose into what the business of other countries unless it's something that would affect America directly.

Jealousy is an destructive emotion. I remember one guy who worked in the same place I did. He worked in the tool room, and I worked in the Personnel Office. He was so jealous because we had an old coffee pot in our office and other departments didn't have one. He threw fits, complained, and finally filed a grievance. The result? We had to get rid of our coffee pot. So what exactly had he succeeded in accomplishing? People are so petty.

That is a beautiful sentiment. I am not American but when I was in Prague I felt the need to defend americans because I was teaching and my students said stuff. I told them that the people can not control the government and what it does.... anymore than they can control theirs. When they said that all americans are rich.... I brought them poverty reports and we compared it against theirs.... wouldn't you know it? America had more. (Yes we adjusted for population difference.) Anyway I told them they shouldn't hate based on that because that is founded on jealousy alone anyway. Jealousy is unbecomming.

"Shock, rage and grief there has been aplenty. But any glimmer of recognition of why people might have been driven to carry out such atrocities, sacrificing their own lives in the process - or why the United States is hated with such bitterness, not only in Arab and Muslim countries, but across the developing world - seems almost entirely absent."

We are Rich? Where did you get this notion? You have never been to the US then, and seen how people really live. People that think all Americans are rich need to really see life as it is here... Go visit some of the neighborhoods where the Poor are, and lower class. Why does everyone think we are like Bill Gates? Just because we here in the US might make more than a lot of the countries do, and own a Computer, etc. does not mean we are well off by no means. In some areas where I live, the Cost of living will kill you if you are not making at least a decent amount. It is getting SAD. Maybe if you could see it from a different perspective, people would not feel this way.

I really dont hate Americans. I think people hate them because of their attitute or unfriendliness. I am just stating some assumptions. I dont think people should hate anyone on silly grounds like richness. I beleive in knowing the person first before categorising them.

Ummm...Our foreign policy for one. It's called blowback. Look it up! The one's who are misinformed about what America is truly about are the Americans. (I am one by the way, and I'm appalled at what our "government" is doing and that it reflects on us in such a strong way. Chalmers Johnson has written some good books on the issue.

Oh boy...
Let me, as an American, assure you that we are NOT all rich. People starve and die on the streets every day in the US because our government is entirely too worried about what's going on anywhere else but here. People suffer and die every single day because health care in this country is an absolute disaster and millions of people who do not have any insurance cannot get the care they need.
I personally barely scrape by, despite having full time employment. I am certainly not the only one who lives paycheck to paycheck; the reality is a very large number of Americans are FAR from rich and are doing all they can just to have something to eat every day.
I don't mean to sound hostile, but it is simply not true that we're all living the lap of luxury.

Americans are as loved or as hated as anybody else!
Politics and ordinary life are different!
America is a favoured place for immigration, for many in the world! How can this be so,if they are hated?

I think that people don't hate americans! They hate the american government which is different! The US government thinks they own the world and they can do whatever they like or wherever there's oil or interests! In conclusion, people and government are 2 different things!

Americans aren't just one race. There are many different types of people from many different countries that live there. I used to live there for 10 years but I was not a american. There were many of us there on residency permits and from varied countries. There is no one single race or type of american so that is not true.
