we had an increase in our salary starting this month. aside from my plans of opening an account for my baby, i am also planning of having other investments be real productive. others recommend investing in jewelries coz you can sell them or pawn them in case of need or emergencies. can you suggest other easy investments for a woman?

Good for you for starting that account for your baby, it will be very valuable when it is time to go to college.
As for your own investiments, jewelry can be a poor investiment, you will rarely get the same amount at a pawn shop as you paid for it in the first place, plus it can be damaged, lost or stolen.
If you have any unsecured debit, like credit cards, you should use your extra money to pay those off first. Most credit cards charge more in intrest than you earn from short-term investiments, so it is best to get rid of that debt first. After that, you could invest money in a moneymarket account, CDs, or mutual funds, which are all pretty safe investiments and you can still get to your money quickly if you have an emergency. Moneymarket accounts and CDs are FDIC insured, mutual funds are not. Ask at your bank aboutother services they have that might work for your situation. If you have never invested before, I recommend CD's because they are easy and you know when and how much they will be worth when they mature. That was the first "investiment" I started out with.
Good Luck.
