It wasn’t supposed to be Cho Chang who gave the secret away!

I watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix the other day, and my eyebrows actually furrowed when it appeared that Cho Chang had been the one who told Professor Umbridge the secret about the Defense Association. I guess the director was looking for a reason for Harry Potter and Cho Chang to break up. See, in the book, it was Cho Chang’s friend, Marietta, who told Professor Umbridge about the Defense Association meetings. Well, just saying. The movie was pretty good, though.

I can't belive the movie is that way and you are right it is Cho's friend that told Professor Umbridge not Cho. I can't belive they ruined the movie that way. I want to see it but it sounds disappointing since I just finished reading the book over again last week.

You should watch the movie nonetheless because it really brings out the visual aspect of what we have in mind. Of course it was disappointing that they changed a few scenes that were never in the book. But I still loved the movie because it did a good job in building up Harry's character. I recommend you just watch the movie to enjoy the effects and visual aspects of it.:)

you can't expect they copy the whole scene that is written on the book, that will consume time and extra effort. Imagine you are viewing a movie for about 5 hours because every scene on the book itself is translated to the movie. BTW, the movie rocks.........

the movie's effects were cool. however, what disappoints me is that there were a lot of changes in the movie. But hey, they can't fit a very thick book into a movie, could they?

I hate that books are so different to the film, it bugs me because I expect something because I have read the book but then when I watch the film it is different or doesn't acknowledge a scence(point)....

Really? Why did the movie came out that way? I do not expext you to answer, hehe.. I was just wondering. I know that every scene in the book cannot be put into the whole movie, but i think what should be put in the movie should be exactly the way the story goes.. what a pity with the Cho Chang character... after the movie, one of things you actually remember is that Cho Chang was the one who squealed about the secret hideout and the "dumbledore's army".. hmm, i'm a little disappointed..

I was kinda sad about that fact too. I thought that Cho just told Umbridge because she didn't want to get into trouble. But I had a one-minute bathroom break the time they were in Umbridge's office, and Snape did mention that Umbridge used Veritaserum on her, so it wasn't really her fault. I was happy to hear that. Even though I don't like the character of Cho Chang that much, I never had the impression that she was a telltale or a coward. Anyway, I just think they didn't have time to add Marietta into the movie. It'll take a pretty long explanation of how she got there or whatever. But they did accomplish the task of breaking up Harry and Cho so there. :) Personally, I think the movie was okay. I think I was a bit more pleased with the fourth (well maybe because it was my fave book lol!). There was something missing with this one...but it was good enough for me. I think they got all the important stuff in it, and the acting was marvelous. I did cry (thankfully I watched the movie at like, 10:30am so there's not much people in the cinema and no one was sitting beside me).

Yes, I've noticed that too. They're actually creating another story there u-huh?. Here's another thing, all members of the DA were punished with that magical PEN Umbridge have, where in fact in the book, it was only Harry who have experienced using that pen. Nice special effects they got anyway.. I like the movie somehow even if it has it's own twist and turns. ;) hihihihi...

another add-ons, huh? but i still think the movie's pretty good. i mean, there's no harm in creating new scenes, right? the plot of the story is still the same. :)

Actually the quill that caused the writing to etch into Harry's hand wasn't just used on him, it was used on other people's detentions as well. It's mentioned Umbridge used it on Lee Jordan after he made a joke in class. So, using the quill on other people in the movie wasn't inaccurate.

Hmmm, thats my problem in reading books then watching that book in the movies. I know its imposibble to oput everything from the book to the movies. Thats why i have decided not to watch the movie so that I will not be annoyed. It affects me when the movie does not present all the facts that are there in the book.

it's better to watch than not to watch. the movie is not as good as the book, but it'll do for some entertainment. :)

That really bothered me as well... See, when I first started reading about Cho, I didn't like her, since she was kind of an outsider and didn't really seem to belong anywhere in the story, and I thought Harry's crush on such a clueless person was rather pointless. Then, as I read about her in Book 5, I realized it's not her fault she doesn't know what's going on, and she's just an innocent, normal person. After this, I didn't dislike her anymore. But, making her seem like a snitch in the movie is going to give her a bad reputation among movie-goers! If her reputation wasn't already shaky enough, that's really going to ruin it. I was kind of upset that the director/producer decided to abuse her character like that and upset that Rowling allowed it. It would have been easy to include Marietta, rather than that Nigel kid who doesn't even exist in the books and I suppose is meant to take the place of Colin and Dennis Creevey, who they deleted out of existence or something...

yeah, you have a point. haven't thought about that.. they should've added marietta, right? hmmm.. well, i never liked cho chang in the book AND in the movie.. in the movie, she's, like, this traitor.. and in the book she's,like, a "human hosepipe" as harry called her. cry baby.. hmph.. i'm still voting for the harry and ginny love team! haha.. :)

Saved them from having to add yet another character too, I'm sure. With books like these, they just can't get everything in. I wish they could though.

the thing is that they wanted something to show the break up between harry and cho. so they did that thing you mentioned. or they would have had to show the whole hoagmead trip to explain about the break up. this was mush simpler. and remember that in the book it was dobby who told harry about the room of requirement but in the film its nevill who finds it. there were many changes from the book in the whole film. but its usual to change the story to suit the film's need.

yup.. kind of a bit of a short cut, ain't it? butit's still okay. the plot of the story is still the same. harry breaks up with cho.. and the d.a.s got caught by professor umbridge.. that's ok. the effects are still so darn amazing!!! :)

had the same reaction...wish they didn't make it that way.it mad cho a snitch which is sad because she wasn't like that. besides that's not the reason why things didn't work out between her and harry...guess the producers just wanted to make it simple. but for people who already read the book, changes like that are quite disappointing. the movie was great, though, especially for people who haven't read the book...
