It was yesterday when I was riding in a jeepney when three kids are inside the jeep trying to wipe the shoes of the passengers with a piece of rug while the jeep is running. After they wipe each passenger shoes they are begging for some money when two old lady are chatting to each other the one lady give them 2cents each and told them if they want to go with her coz she had no grandchild. The three kids refuse and just accepted the money and go down to the jeepney. I think that the old lady is sincere of what she said coz I heared what she is telling about with her friends that she is heartedly sympathized with children who beg in the street just to have money. But for me the way I help them is to give food or clothing wich for me is really important for them I rather give them food that they can eat, instead of money coz I don't know if they will spend them wisely or maybe they can used it for gambling. How about you friends tdo you give money to the poor?

I prefer to donate to Unicef. Especially here in the Philippines there are syndicates that take the money away from the beggars. So it's really useless to give them cash. Plus we don't want to encourage begging as a form of livelihood. But around Christmas time I do give to beggars.

yeah some children are being used by syndicates. when you give money to them they are encourage to beg. they should be brought to institutions that would help them to earn a decent living. but i do feed beggars just to nourish their hunger.

No. I do not want to give the money or materials to the poor. I always give materials and money to charitable institution which in turn offers jobs to the poor and takes care of them.

I know there's a lot of children who are being used by a syndicate to earn money. There are a lot of them in the church as well. I don't give money to these children not because I don't sympathize with them. The reason is I reckon if I give some I will just encourage those people behind these children in using them as a form of income. I prefered giving food instead of money. It is much better that way because I'm not sure if where would the money goes.

yes, i give them money but frankly speaking,,i choose who's deserve and who's not.when i see them in a healthy condition, still young and have enough energy, why should they begging? I don't mean to judge them but from my experience, i had had a maid who's already worked for my family since my dad was about 20 or something and had been working with us till i was 20 years old!! FYI now i'm 26. now she's absolutely retired due to her age which is around 80. That's why i have to "decide" if they're deserve to be given or not.

I only give food and perhaps clothings whenever I can, I also don't give money to all of them. It really is very frustrating, to see children begging and working on streets. But we can never be sure if they really work for their own, as there are lots of syndicates who holds this children for their own "evil purpose." We cannot help someone/somebody, if they don't want to be helped by others. The old woman's intention maybe good, but these children may be enjoying their life on the street or might be scared to those who are handling them..

I agree with you thats why sometimes I'm really hesitated to give them money. I knew some poor child here with involved in a syndicate but we donnt have enough evidence It is hard to involved in this kind of situation and the kids are not being cooperated too thats why we keep quite. Thanks fro sharing, have a nice dayy raijin.

In my country, there are many welfare organisations and charity institutions set up to help those who are in need, poor or deprived. The government ministry can also provide assistance. Those who genuinely need the assistance are usually encouraged to sign up with these bodies. Begging on the streets is discouraged and in fact not allowed. Every year, these institutions and organisations reach out to the public in various ways to get them to donate and help the less fortunate. I have been contributing monthly to two such major organisations for many years now. They deserve our help, and I will continue doing so as long as I can financially.

If I may add, I think this way of helping is better and more targeted. The organisations can assess the kind of assistance a person requires, and offer help that is more suitable for that person, whether it is cash, food, clothing, shelter, helping to pay utilites, or a variety of help combined.

Well lexus we have these also some welfare organization that many people in the bussiness society are contributing them but the mare fact is we have still thses street beggars running around the street just for begging. I know our government is the one who is really responsible on this matter I don't were they spent the money from the charitable institution. Thanks for sharing.

you can't keep them out of the streets if you keep feeding these children there. train them that it isn't the place to beg..and if you do, you are more putting them in danger if for a few cents they would run after a vehicle..

This is the kind of government nowadays. They should be the one to stop children from begging in the streets. Or better yet, they should feed this children so they don't walk around bugging other people. The funny things is policemen will give you ticket for road hazards but not on children causing hazards. They see them, and tolerate them. What a pity.

I give money to charities that I feel will use the money wisely. I never, ever give money to beggars. By giving them money you are only encouraging their despicable behaviour.

i spoil one of them. this kid beg for money outside our school and he told me that he's saving for his school allowance, he wants to study all he have to do is to look for ways to have an allowance, thats what he does, he begs for it, and i think a peso or 5 or bigger than that wont hurt my pocket.

well i stay in mumbai india and here you can find a lot of such kids. the thing is i an give money to people who need them. i have some money extra with me and so if i give that to poor and needful people then there is no harm but when i see a prson who is fit and able to do hard work but still he is beggin then i dnt give him a single peny. if he can then he should work. why woudl you beg if you are physically fit. young boys and girls roam on the street for money. i think people also shoudl keep a note and dnt encourage this

Where do you live? I give donations to an animal shelter a lot and at Christmas time I did this thing where you help a hungry family by buying them food for a holiday meal and one other item that they need. I think it is the right things to do to share our good fortune with others when we can. Good post!

in my humble opinion, it is not appropriate to give money to the poor. i remember the rain was heavy i needed to run for cover and i have encountered a blind man in the shade counting his money with his assistant saying, "Php300 is lesser than our quota for the day". Wow! they can really earn this big, i mean biiger than Php300 a day just from begging! yes it would be better if you will give them clothes and food so that for sure they can use it.

Yeah i give money to the poor. It's sad to see children walking and asking begging money and worst they are the one's working rather than there parents. It's not right! Children should be at school studying not working.

First of all, I come from a poor family too so poor people will always have a soft spot in my hear. Yes, I do give money as my way of sharing whatever little blessings I may have. This, to me, is a deed that I intend to fulfill whenever possible. It has become sort of a vow. Poverty is one social ill that is not only prevalent in the Philippines but in so many countries as well! In the Philippines, the level of poverty has already reached an alarming and critical rate. This is evident in urban areas like Metro Manila where beggars (whether legitimate or illegitimate) abound; young and old alike. And, they are growing in serious proportions each and every day! The question is: Is our government doing something to solve or alleviate this ever-growing problem? Pehaps yes as evidenced by the existence of the Department of Social Welfare and Development or DSWD. Next question is: Has the DSWD been efficient or effective in its mandated tasks? The answer is a flate NO! Why, simply because they are short of funds in implementing social programs to address the poverty problem. And what exacerbates this further is the fact that the money that is supposed to be spent for this purpose ends up being diverted or worse in the pockets of corrupt government officials! As I've said, I had take it upon myself to pitch my owh share just like most of us to give money (or food or material things, etc.) to the poor. But his is not the permanent solution! This is just a stop-gap; a momentary way out to a gargantuan problem. I chose to end my piece here as I can go on and on and on and rant on a simple question albeit an important one. But don't you think that because of the good deed that we do, our government has sort of passed on the buck to us already in terms of what is supposed to be their responsibility? Just asking.

I know that is there rsponsibility since they are living here in our country and what really the problem is we have many welfare institution that we know many business compliance are giving them contibution and other non government institution just to help the poor but still there are many street beggars and I think they are getting bigger because i think of the corruption that the politicians are doing. Yes many welfare institutions re helping but can they do this without the knowledge of the government and still government is responsible to this right?

If I had money I would definitely do more things for poor people. At the moment I don't have any money due to no job but what I do at the moment is I look through all of my old clothing (old clothing doesn't necessarily mean full of holes, faded and dusty, just clothes that don't fit anymore or clothes that I don't need due to getting new ones) and give them away to charities that feed and clothe homeless people.
