What makes you think that the med's aren't God's way of helping you? I am a manic/depressive so I can relate to what you are saying. My wife will tell you how important it is to stay on your med's. She knows what happens when I stop taking mine. The strange thing that happens is that when I get really depressed I stop taking my meds. Luckly, she is there for me to get me back on track. Try the website "achangewilldoyougood" and if you live in the United States, looking for an organization called NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness or something like that). They offer support groups. See if there is one in your area. Also look for help for a school counselor, the parent of a friend who you could talk to, a minister, a different therapist among other things. Look on the internet for help in your area, please!

There was also a survey taken of people who jumped off of bridges, but managed to survive. Most of them said that once they jumped, they wished they didn't. Something to think about...

Hi Nicole. Medicines and couselling can help but it is only you can actually help yourself. I had a depression too; fearing that I would loose my job. After realizing that nothing and nobody else can help, I took it upon myself to beat my own depression. I bought a punching bag and whenever I felt depressed, I just leat off hitting my punching bag until I got tired. It worked!!! I am now free from depression, medication and counselling. It proved to be a good exercise too!!! hahahaha. Go beat it girl!

I'm sorry to here that, but you are so young to be depressed. Sad also to here that you feel that the Lord has abandoned you. I myself is also experiencing depression due to lost of a love one, stress from work, financial problem all in one year (2005). God was the only source of strength that I have since then until now. God will never abandon you, but you have to hear His Words. It is in His Words that the healing comes. Our depression has brought a lot of psychological nightmares to us. It's all in our mind. We just need a change in thinking, of how we view life. Because of the depression it has distorted our way of thinking, we have to get it back to the way we think before. And it starts from reading the Word of God. I highly recommend Norman Vincent Peale Books, because they are easy to read and easy to relate to. If you really don't want to read then I also suggest listening to Mozart and Hayden music.
But I really suggest for you to read the word of God. If you really don't want to read then just listen to it, go to Biblegateway.com.
I hope this helps.

Hi babygirl- speaking from the experience of combatting depression myself and also having a 15 year old sister that combatted depression and cutting herself- you need to get physically active! Music is nice- but it doesn't help the anxiety you are most likely feeling. Do you have a dog- it's great therapy to have a dog and walk with the dog. Do you like any extra-curicular activities. My sister was not into playing sports- but we got in touch with the school coaches and she now manages Spring and Winter Track and Football- she is now 17- her grades have improved dramatically and her attitude as well. She is no longer cutting herself- because we found her a socialization outlet. Get out there and do what makes you feel good! Have you ever tried meditation or yoga? Once you learn how to do these things the correct way- they really do help. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance at all- if you ever just want to talk or vent- I'm always here! Stay strong and keep the faith- there is no where for you to go but up- remember that!

Hi Nicole I can't say that I understand how you feel, even tho' I used to suffer from depression frequently. When I finally looked around and realised that whatever problems I may have, they pale in comparison to what many others experience. That's not to say that your problems aren't real, but if you focus instead on how to deal with and solve them, and eventually when you do, it'll help more with your condition and mindset. Cutting yourself, screaming, crying - they won't help, you need to get down and solve your problems/insecurities instead. Good luck!
