Stuck!

Something crazy happened to me this morning. I woke up around 7am and as my usual habit, I went straight to the bathroom to take a shower. Nothing was amiss until I finished my shower and found out that I was locked in! I tried turning the door knob right and left to no avail. When it didn't budge, I felt panic rising within me. OMG! No, this can't be happening, I told myself over and over again. But there I was, I was stuck! I lived alone and my neighbors in the building were a floor below me and I doubt if they could hear me.
I tried the door again and again but it just would not give in. My hands were scraped from trying to force the door open. So much for feeling that I had enough strength to break the door. All I ever succeeded in doing was destroying the door knob. Thoughts of being found dead in the CR was running in my mind. But I did not want to entertain the thought. I had to get out.
After few more attempts at the door, I gave up the futile effort. I had no choice but to make noise and attract the attention of my neighbors and hope that they would come to my rescue. Good thing I had a coral decoration in the bathroom. I banged the stone in the grill and shouted for help. This went on for about 5minutes until neighbor finally answered my call. Thank goodness!
The neighbor called for the administrator of the building who called someone who could climb up the windows to break the bathroom door.
I never felt so relieved in my life when the door finally gave in. This experience gave me the scare of my life.

You could place the computer in your CR in the future and get help through MyLot if it ever happens again! Hehehe :)

Thank you for that suggestion. I will look that up and suggest the landlady about it.

That reminds me - you could also ask the building mgmt to consider installing one of those help phones/alert system in CRs, or at least those who choose to. Usually used by physically handicapped people, but just to help with what you've experienced before, it might be worth exploring. I'm sure there're others in your building who might find it useful!

this is like remembering once again what i tried to forget. hahaha
i also got stuck in a bathroom, however it's not in my home. it's in a hotel room. it was a scary experience and i'm very ashamed that it happened in the same hotel twice. both times, i only had a skimpy towel with me. i did the same like you dis to attract passersby of the hotel. good thing i was only on the second floor of a low rise building but, getting stuck once in midnight and another early in the morning are two horrible experiences i don't ever wanna experience again. i'm afraid for children or old people who would be experiencing the same ordeal as i had.
i can understand the relief you felt once rescued. :)

It sounds funny after some time. Good thing we don't have claustrophobia. But I don't ever want that thing to happen to me again.
Thank God we survived:P Thanks for sharing your experience.

Oh my goodness, that would have scared me so bad. It's really bad when you live by yourself and you know that nobody will even know you are stuck in there. I'm glad you finally got someone's attention so they could come get you back out. I would find out what is wrong with that door so it never happens again.

omg i can not believe that, you poor thing, i wonder what caused it to lock... i think id check that out
i know id be scared of it happening again.. thank God
your neighbor was home.... and helped you... my girls
kinda got a scare last night as well... i had been on the internet looking up stuff and i came across
a site that was about this man he was a serial killer
and it told about all his victims, how they were all
young and that he worked as a clown that's how he met most of them... anyhow, it was late anyways and
i told the girls about it right before bed, and then went to bed myself not thinking anymore about it
and all of a sudden i hear screaming and i go to there room and they told me that they had just gotten a text message saying dont look down there's a clown at your feet... well they were so scared...
we figure it was just someone playing a prank, but
it was really late and they had not told anyone the story... so i dont know... anyhow u take care of yourself...

Thanks for that. I did't know for sure what caused the knob to stuck. I would probably get rid of the door and just hang a shower curtain in its place. I don't want it to ever happen again.
As for your kids, it was a bad prank whoever sent it to them. But thank God it was only a prank and that your kids are safe.

Good gosh~!! How could that have happened.. You poor thing! I have been locked in before but I was never alone to begin with. That would have been really scary! So have you changed the door knob yet? I think you should have it changed so it doesn't happen again. Thank goodness the neighbors were able to hear you calling for help. Well just thank God you're okay now. Something interesting added in the story of your life.. :D

It was really scary. And no, the knob has not been fixed yet, I plan to have the door removed altogether and have it replaced by a curtain.

Good idea on taking the door down. I'll bet that was scary.
I have gotten stuck in the restroom at a restaurant once and the owners had to get the door open. That was embarrassing but I was glad other people were nearby.

It is somewhat embarassing because it comes off as being stupid sometimes. But no, the damn thing got stuck and it's not our fault. In your case, the owners should be the one to get embarassed.:P

I would find this incident more embarrassing than scarey. Though I can understand you finding it unnerving.
To be honest, if it happened to me, there is no wall adjoining nieighbours where I could knock or bang on something.
Perhaps your unfortnate incident is a lesson to me to always take my mobile phone in the bathroom, maybe even the toilet!

Believe me, when you are in the situation, you won't think it to be embarassing. And you won't mind having your hands scraped or your fingernails chipped. All you could think of is to get out. Until now, my hands and arms are sore from all that exertion to break the door. But maybe when some time has passed, I would be able to find something funny about it. In the meantime, I would take all the precautions for it not to happen again.:P

Wow that is scary. Good thing your neighbors were alert.
Something like that happened to me once, but it was the other way around, I was locked out.
I just finishes shower and I headed downstairs to pull the plug of our water pump. I opened the wooden door not realizing it only opened halfway and did not reach the magnet to keep the door from swinging back to a close.
Just when I bent down to pull the plug, there goes the slamming sound of the door, I tried to open it and it was locked.
I didn't know what to do since my mom did not leave a spare key outside, and I did not have my mobile phone with me.
After standing outside the door for some time our neighbors maid came out of their house and asked me if something was wrong and I told her what has happened. She lent me her mobile phone and I called my mom to ask if she happens to have left a spare key outside and she didn't. They were halfway to work which will take them almost an hour if they'll head back home. We happen to have a screen window leading to the kitchen and it was big enough to fit a person, so I borrowed a screwdriver from the neighbor and went in from there.. hahaha!

LOL! These things are irritating don't you think? I too have been locked out quite a few times and it's embarassing to have to ask help for people to climb windows for you. But I would prefer being lockec out than in.

Whoa, reading that gave me quite a scare too, like the way reading a thriller book does. I am really happy that you got away safely, consider yourself lucky, and have a nice mug of hot chocolate thinkin' about it..

Man that's crazy! You know, not even out of a fear of getting stuck or anything I keep a set of screwdrivers in a drawer in my bathroom. Maybe you should invest in a little travel set to keep in your bathroom so you can unscrew the doorknob if it ever happens again?
It's so good you had neighbors to call. Man I don't even have a window in my bathroom. nor is there anyone underneath of me! That's so scary! I think I would have ended up breaking the door down though.
Did they ever figure out what happened? Why the door got stuck shut?

No, I did not bother to investigate and anyway the knob is now broken. I don't know what I would have done if my bathroom was anything like yours. Now, that's scarier! But good for you to have a set of screws in your bathroom. I guess I should also do the same. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I hope so too. The second time around would be embarassing:P But no, I plan to just use a shower curtain in lieu of the door. I can't afford for it to happen again. I may not be that lucky the second time around:P
