The issue I'm most concerned with now is public education, as many children can't pass the basic test in California. The basic test requires you to be able to read basic words and know what they mean; however, more than 50% didn't pass the test. Students must also pass the math portion, which is adding, subtracting, multiply and division, which I learned in elementary school. Our newspaper had a sample test and I had no trouble passing both parts.
Students take the test until they pass or no graduation. Many students had to take it a lot of times and some still didn't pass. The local school had a couple of "honor" students fail, which really tells you honors means nothing at the local school.
I think this state needs to put more time into the basic classes. California has been near the bottom in test scores for many years and needs to fix the problems. I have heard people say its because students can't speak English and my response learn English, as English is the official language.

I apologize because it's a selfish response, what keeps me up all night is my planning and scheming and working out what needs to be done before I make my great escape. I have a lot of organize, make sure every loose end is tied up and I don't leave anything of importance behind, everything is being worked out and no stone left unturned to make sure that when I do leave in October I have no worries and everything is sorted.

War, hunger, disease. Sadly there seems to be no end in sight to any of these. When a cure/remedy is found for one, there is another waiting in the wings to take its place.

Country or nation is secondary. What concerns me most is finding enough money to meet the financial needs of my my family who rely entirely on me. God help!

Honestly even though I care a lot about nature and government and issues that impact us all. The things that would keep me up at night would be more personal. If my childern are suffering from colds or having challenges at school. Money issues, car problems and personal relationships. Those things are hard to just let go of for the night. What I do is say there is nothing I can do about it right now at 2 in the morning. And if that just doesn't do it I will read till I fall asleep. Can't think of my troubles if I am reading a spooky story. LOL Vicki
