Tips for walking

My son is 17 months old. He was in physical therapy before he could sit up, but is no longer in. He is making progress, but I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on helping him stand up in the middle of a room. He stands up on furniture and will take steps from there, but once he falls he can't stand back up. If anyone knows any ways to work with him that would be great.
