quite frankly i come from a family of racists but am not a racist ,yself. i have thought about this and think that part of their problem was that for so many years and even today although the goverment would deny it to the gills, yes we wronged alot of people due to their nationality but they keep giving the money to them as if they earned and in alot of cases they did but not to their great grandchildren and so on. this new millenium should mark an era of what people have learned and not keep repaeting the same mistakes. i know more white people that are losers than other race. and one thing i do not agree with is if you live in this country and work in this country whether you speak englsih or not you should have to pay taxes as well not get to work on a visa and not pay one red cent that is not fair to all the citizens here.

People are racist because that was how they were raised.
I know some very racist Black and Mexican people who hate and say bad things about Whites and Jews.
Naturally, being a republican in the Black community is bad enough. But, when I try to tell them that they ARE as racist as the kkk White members, they get all upset.
The truth is the truth.

First of all welcome to the boards!
I think racism is still around and living large because it seems it's has always been treated in one area and not all. We have been working for many years to root it completely out of the whites culture, however not in others such as blacks, Mexicans, Chinese, and so forth. Thus only one group is "corrected" for this attitude, and not the rest.
Secondly what society accepts as being racist is in it's self is a bit racist. For example, an all black school is considered acceptable, however all white school is not. Why? The KKK is depicted as a racist group, yet the black panthers are not, why?
If we are ever to cure racism we need to treat it across the board entirely, not just at one point. Secondly acknowledging our differences and allowing us to celebrate them would also assist to create tolerance. There is nothing wrong with us admitting we are different from one another and that certain groups would like to be together with their own group, as in my example above, all black schools, all white schools. IMO there isn’t anything wrong with either one of them.

i think alot of people are in fact seperatist who get mislabeled as racists.i also feel seperatizm is a natural instinct and because of that "what people term as racism will never go away"every time people are givin free choice they always seperate into thier own races.this multi-cultural thing is forced and will not ever work because of this.me personally dont have anything against another race, but i prefer to be around only my race because it is just more comfortable

I think it's a shame that in this day in age there are people like you who feel the way you do! I am black and married a white man and wouldn't have had it any other way really. I don't see colour when I look at him and on the point about people naturally separating, I went to a predominantly white pprivate girls' school and i had frineds from alls orts of races! i mixed in with everyone and in general most people int he school mixed with everyone else!

It's actually kind of simple. Racism (all types) has very deep roots in history and is continually handed down from generation to generation. Ongoing wars have often kept tensions high. The internet has actually provided a boon to racism because groups like Stormfront can get their message (translation: white supremacy) out to millions. All that being said, we have made some exceptional progress in the half century. And that being said, there is still a lot of work to do.

it always seems that people only feel comfortable puttig down white racists.louis farrakan's little racist group is also helped by the internet.do you think only white people have racist groups?and lets not forget the racist spanish groups who feel we owe them our country?did you know there are all black colledges here in the states that white people are not allowed to join?name one colledge in this country where blacks are told they can not join? i for one am tired of white people who kiss other races butts just to get along.and this, we are all the same crap, is sickening too.if we are all the same how come i couldnt get sickle cell anemia if you poured it all over me, and only the black race can get this??just as the different breeds of animals have specific traits associated to there breed so also do humans according to there race.that is not racism it is fact.

Where do you get your facts? You mention Cycle Cell anemia. The point is? Well, did you know that Cystic Fibrosis is the most common genetic disease among the white population. It is exceedingly rare in black and hispanic populations. But the topic here is why racism does still exist. It is learned behaviour. Little children do not notice racial differences. By the time they are teenagers they are exposed to so many stereotypes either in the home, through their friends and now the internet. I agree with oldiebut that great progress has been made but there is still a lot of work to be done. That includes wiping out prejudices held by people of all colour of the rainbow.

no progress has been made only people hiding their true thoughts on race.what you call progress has been forced.there is nothing wrong with PREFERING to be around your own race and it does not make you racist or a bad person.i dont think i am any better than any other race but i prefer to be around my own race.truth seems to be lacking in every discussion i see on race.here is some black history they will never teach and it is TRUTH- there has never been a great all black nation,a black nation has never sent a rocket into space nor built a submarine to explore the oceans, there has never been any ancient books or writings discovered that were a product of a black man from a black nation.the black race only seemed to get a history because of america.even today black tribes or countries still live like cavemen(swahilis and zulus are my examples)they still practice voodoo, still hunt with spears, heck they didnt even have a written language untill white men introduced the concept.now i know what i have written is not going to be popular with the sheople, but it is the truth

I think everyone is racist. Some more so then others. I mean you see a white guy browsin through a department store with one hand in his pocket and you think nothing of it but if u see a brown skinned fella and you go like, "911 attack, london train bomb" and all kinds of things.

I can't really speak for the racists but I think it's a lack of knowledge and also ignorance that makes people jugde others by their skin colour! I am a black woman and recently married a white man and people do stare at us, especially older couples but i ignore tham because this is about us not them! We fully understand that some people are offended but it won't bother us!

I think racism is very bad. Even though I don't know many racists... or any at all, we still think its funny to make racist jokes. EVen some of the other races love to hear those jokes, you'd be suprised. But I think its also offensive, and you have to be careful what you say and do. But yes, I frown upon racism.

Hi, and welcome to myLot. I think there are several reasons why people are racists: The main reason is to feel superior. When one can look down on someone else for whatever reason, they can feel better about themselves. These people are generally not very happy or satisfied with themselves or their lives. Two, some people are afraid of things they aren't familiar with and/or don't understand. Since different races generally have different cultures, languages, beliefs and/or behaviors, it is a good excuse to misunderstand and avoid them.

If you find an answer to that, please let me know. I don't really think there is any reason at all why people should still be racist. The only possible reason that I think someone would still be racist is if they are older and set in their ways. Meaning they have been that way their whole lives. Or I guess if your parents repeatedly pound it in your brain that other races are inferior to yours, that's probably a reason why some younger people are.

I really don't understand it myself. I am guessing that it is a way of thinking that gets passed down from generation to generation. I'm not sure. Where I live there is so little of it that it is shocking when someone expresses discriminating thoughts. What is really amazing is when you hear an otherwise very intelligent person displaying such ignorant views.
