Do you cut your own hair? Or go to a salon?

I cut everyone's hair here. Three boys and two girls. I never went to school for it or anything but I hate paying so much money for cuts plus tip. When I was in the city I would have a bad hair day and walk in a salon and get a cut but here you have to make an appointment drive at least 30 minutes to do it. So when I feel the need I just do it myself. And with 5 people needing cuts, that is huge savings a year. What do you do? Cut it yourself or salon? If so how much do you spend at a salon?

I cannot cut hair and I don't know anybody who can. So I get my hair cut and highlighted and it normally costs me around $70.00. My husband thinks this is outrageous but other I have talked to say their colors/highlights cost them like $100. I think my hairdressor gives me a break as I have went to her for like 15 years. If I could cut hair, I would do like you and do it to save money. Husband cuts our dogs hair so we don't have to fork out $35.00 each month.

Well it's not that much to have it cut. I have it colored, cut and styled. But I undestand that is high. Mine is $75 and she normally does my eyebrow waxing also. So really it is $65

That is the main reason I started cutting ours. If we all went at the same time it would cost at least $115 to do it and that is for simple cuts. A few times a year that is a lot of savings.

Im too bloody tight to pay about 30$ for a haircut that i can get for free. I use a good friend to cut my hair. Saying that, its an easy job tho as i just want it american soldier style. Short and straight.

The hair cuts here in Pakistan are not so expensive. My hair growth is rapid and I need two hair cuts in one month. It costs me $2 for both of my hair cuts. I don't also have to take appointments and drive for 30 minutes. instead I have to just walk up to my hair cutting salon and have my hair cut. Facilities are also great. You can hear music or see Cable while having your hair cut.

Hi Vicki, You do a really good job at cutting hair! A very wise thing to do financially as well. Unfortunately I am not in the same situation as you. If I tried to cut my own hair the result would not be very pretty. It is ok though because I am now losing my hair so fast I will be bald soon enough so I won't have to worry about it anymore. :) cheers,

Wow you cut real good. I spend around 10 - 15 dollars a month for my haircut. Would you also please cut my hair. lol hehehe just kidding pal. :) If i had to have a haircut from you then i think i would have to pay a bomb for the flight tickets. lol :). But i must say you really have a good neck at cutting hair. Maybe you should work professionally or start a small parlour of your own.

In the past I have cut my hair but now I go to the beauty parlor. I have a monthly standing appointment with my hair dresser. I am mostly gray so I dye my baby.

I wouldn't try to cut my own hair. After all, I have no experience on this, and know nothing about it. I could end up messing myself, not to say that I can even hurt myself! I go to the Salon. Every month, usually... Sometimes, I take two months to go, but usually is every month. My hair grows very fast. But hey, here things aren't that expensive. I have to walk 30 minutes to reach the Salon, and then I pay R$5.00 (five reais) to get my haircut. I don't think that's expensive... Every Dollar is worth 2 reais, so try to do the maths... Something around U$2.50 to get a hair cut. For me, it's OK paying that price. My brother does the same, sometimes he even go with me. And so does my father! The barber is a reliable man, and I have my haircut by him for ages! My mother won't go, since the barber only cuts male hair.

I have not been to the salon in about 11 years, my husband & son have always had their hair cut by me. I cut my own hair & it is just below shoulder lenght. I always cut my own & it is always straight. I can't stand paying a fortune just to get it trimmed. Last time I got it done at a salon they stuffed it up that bad I shaved my whole head. I wanted a male type haircut & they made it long at the front ( about shoulder lenght ) and then VERY short at the back. It was hideous.

Oh my Goodness! I know that look! It is a very noticeable cut that doesn't work on everyone. I like more simple cuts. I am a loud enough personality I don't need my hair to scream. LOL Thanks for the post! Vicki

Your just like my mom when we where small. She on the other hand was training to be a beautician before she got married to my father so she knows how to cut hairs. But still since she doesn't have much experience (because she did not get to work after marrying) we all have (my sisters and I) at some point in our lives have to live with bowl cut hairs. Lol.

LMAO So did I. My mom knew nothing about cutting hair and she would get drunk and say we needed a cut and gave us the bowl cut. HEHEHE

I spend to much on my hair. Like clockwork every 10 weeks I am sitting in the chair telling my stylist what to do with it this time. I have a husband and 6yr old who needs haircuts way more than me. I wish I could cut hair so I could do theirs. I would not just let anyone cut my hair. My 23 year old knows how to cut a guys hair, but getting him over here to cut his little brothers is like pulling teeth. So off we go tomorrow to get haircuts. I spend $115 on my hair every 10 weeks, it cost $12 a piece for my son and husband.

I am on a fixed income so I generally cut my own hair. Sometimes I will have my daughter trim up the back because that is the one thing about it that I have trouble with now after a shoulder injury several years back. After the town (Greensburg, Kansas) mostly got blown away in a tornado the 4th of May, the stylist I had do my hair moved away and I am not sure where she moved to. She is one of few I ever trusted to cut my hair. A niece I took care of when she had an amputation would pay for the cuts when I stayed with her. I don't mind doing my own and i am need again so will need to get the scissors out.

No, i don't because i won't be able to check it i'm doing the back. right. I go to a saloon, but i only get a haircut once or twice a year. I do trim the front hair though. However, i do cut my sisters hair sometimes. They do not complain. =)

Usually I just get trims in the back, so I can do those easily enough on my own. I while back I got my head shaved and I got my brother to do that. I used to go to haircutting places but...its really just a waste of money if you're not going there for any specific style. Just normal cuts you can do at home by yourself for free.
