Are you a Linux or Windows user?

Every Linux user I've ever run into has said Windows is buggy, but I suspect this to be little more than a subjective statement from another disgruntled, former Windows user. I have factory-pressed copies of Ubuntu 7.04, and I've had it lock up without needing any intervention from me at all. This has happened just after a clean install, or days later. And when Ubuntu freezes, it doesn't thaw. The only thing you can do at this point is hard shutdown and reboot.
I have been using MS products since DOS 5, and am currently using XP Pro Corporate. I don't seem to be experiencing these "bugs," and it certainly doesn't su*k. The nicest thing is being able to install a new program without using the terminal, and being able to uninstall any program I want to. When I found that AVG was not running correctly in my Ubuntu installation, I wanted to remove it and try F-Prot. But it didn't show up in the program manager.
If you feel compelled to upgrade whenever a new MS operating system comes out, you will have to upgrade hardware as well. I personally don't care for this, but that's just the nature of the beast. My philosophy is, "If it's not broke, don't fix it," and there's positively nothing wrong with my system. It does everything, and it does it smoothly.
I care for my Windows with PerfectDisk (defragmenter), EasyCleaner (registry cleaner), WinDoctor (diagnostics), Free Internet Eraser (browser scrubber), and CCleaner (system scrubber). The first three I actually don't use unless I install a new program, but the last two clean up after my daily activities. I also keep the core locked when I'm not installing new programs, and my system never gets infected. Not even simple adware can run on my system without my consent.
Windows is the most mature, user-friendly, and productive operating system in existance. It is for this reason, and not because M$ makes deals with OEMs (don't forget they started at the bottom, not the top), that they command over 96% of the global market. And in the hands of a skilled user, it can make magic. Salute!

I keep Windows XP for standby, and plan to stow it onto it's own hard disk. But I use Linux for Internet virus security because Linux has been, in my experience, more secure. DO NOT fetch email using Windows, it's firewall alone won't protect you.
*
IF you are going to play with a Linux distro you don't know, I would have all important files saved to DVD/CD or on a removable hard disk or a USB hard disk. Good idea anyway.
*
I'm getting a different distro as soon as I get my USB external hard disk to move my can't loose files. I've noted the Feisty Fawn release to be persistently buggy. At least with my computer.
*
I will end up eventually with a 20 gig Windows XP hard disk, 112 gig Linux hard disk (Internet and email use), and an USB external hard drive for storage.

I couldn't be happier to be a Windows user. Thank you for the compliment! :)

I'm a Linux user and using the most recent flavor Suse Linux. It's really so cool and easy to install. I have installed Beryl also. And the windows as usual it is *SUCKS*. Every one knows that Linux is open source and free to download.

I use Linux better than 90% of the time. I have Ubuntu 7.04 on my desktop system, I currently have Damn Small Linux on my laptop (probably change that to Slax in the next couple of days), and my laptop is dual booting whichever Linux is on it at the time along with Windows XP Pro, for the odd stuff I can't do as quickly/easily in Linux. Oh, and my two webservers are running Linux as well. :)
I simply prefer Linux and OSS in principle, and am tired of giving Microsoft my money. Generally speaking, I can do everything in Linux that I can in Windows, at least the stuff that *I* do, and it works as well if not better than offerings from Microsoft, IMO.

I use both Windows XP and Linux at present.
The attraction with Windows to me is the great variety of high quality third party software that is available, whereas Linux offers a good stable environment with free programs.
I have Windows XP on one drive, and I have Ubuntu Feisty fawn on another drive. It is taking a little time to become accustomed to Ubuntu, but it is certainly worth the effort.

I'm mostly a Windows user because of my work, however, I am also beginning to learn about Linux. I was able to successfully install Simply Mepis on an old laptop that belonged to my sister and take Mepis for a spin.

Hi anousha,
I am Linux user and using Debian Etch.I think Linux is far more reliable than Windows. What we call "Rock Solid" and its true for Linux. Moreover, there is fun while working on Linux. The way we solve problems,CLI and all,its awesome. As you're using Beryl, you know the 3D-capabilities of Linux..in short Linux is invincible.
Cheers

I've never used Debian but u r absolutely right saying that Linux is more reliable and more stable compared to windows.
Yeah lots of applications can now be run smoothly on Linux without having them to crash often!
Talking about Beryl its really cool coz its just like using a Mac! However I think its going to be better than that in the months to come!
Cheers (",)

You're true.Beryl is going to rock in future.I think it is going to attract more users as it looks awesome.Since you are using Ubuntu,I'll advice you to try debian too(in dual/triple boot with ubuntu). You'll like it too.But so far whole LINUX is nice :).Thanks
Cheers,
