How do you push open the door of a public toilet?

Do you get squimish, if you'll use your bare hands? This has caught my attention once when I was i queue to use a public toilet. While I was in along line, I noticed several people using tissues and paper towels when opening the cubicle doors of the toilet; the others used their feet to push it open while a few push it open using their bags. Just imagine if it is still the old fashioned door knob. So how about you? Oh and lastly, how do you flush it? Do you also use tissue paper or your foot to push the flush lever, flusher or...what do you call that thing???

I don't really think about it to be honest. I always thoroughly wash my hands after I'm done which should get rid of most of the germs that I've picked up on my visit. I'm not that big of a germphobe to be honest and as often as I've used public toilets I've never contracted some sort of fatal infection from them...LOL

I remember years ago at Hampden (before it got all cleaned up) at a Scotland game, people were freely pishing in the concourse area causing a huge puddle. A guy tried to run daintily through it and eded up falling flat on his face. If he's not in a plastic bubble or loony bin somewhere right now I'd be very surprised

i actually dont mind handling the knob in order to open it..what i do mnd is whne flushing the flush..i am always aware that people do their business on public toilet..its gross for me to just hold the flush so i use tissues to flush it..
we never know what they did inside the toilet cubicle so might as well be safe on handling things inside the public C.R.
what i usually do was just to wash my hands every now and then..much safe to do the washing not to catch anything in the public C.R.

Hi angel_of_charm! Good morning. Hope you had a good night sleep. I also use tissue in flushing. Would it be nice if we have those ultra modern toilets where there are electronic sensors wherein they automatically flush after using and door opens automatically too? That would be really great! Maybe in the near future, huh? Have a nice day!

You're absolutely right about that! They would rather pocket the stash, enriching themselves, making themselves fat and leaving the public with nothing. So be careful on those public offcials you put in power! lol..aren't we talking about public toilets and not public officials? anyway, they have similarities. Lol

I know that there are people now who will open the bathroom door and everything else using a paper towel or tissue, but, to tell the truth, I'm *so* ready to get to the finest seat in the house that I don't even think to do this.
By the time that I did all of that, there would probably be a puddle of pee on the floor. LOL
In the case of those lower toilet flushers, I used my foot at one time, but I'm not physically able to anymore and just reach back and flush it. And, with the ones that look like the flushers at home, I simply flush them as I do at home--with my hand.
I always wash my hands afterwards anyway.

I usually push open the door of a public toilet using my left hand. Afterwards I will wash my hands. I am afraid to get germs from the handle.

I usually just push the public toilet door and wash afterwards. I flush by stepping on the flusher.
Yeah, I could imagine how that feels like with the old-fashioned door-knob. Maybe that's why they changed it, for us clean-freaks. *LOL*
But I hope all the toilets would have the automatic flush system and the automatic sink faucet system too. But I guess these are quite expensive.
*LOL*
That's why I appreciate faucets which you have to lift up to turn-on or the push-button because you won't need to use your fingers for them. Unlike the facets with turn-levers.
=)
Maybe sooner or later we'll have voice powered ones. Hahaha..Well, it could happen.

Hello there, I think this is one of the "rare and unique" discussions that I've come across, my sweet faith.... However, I just do my "business" on the open-plan layouts (for guys washroom only) and wash my hands thoroughly after that. And most often, I will chance upon someone opening the door to the entrance and I would go right behind him, so that I don't have to touch the doorknob, ha!

Hi zed_k4! Oh, I think I will take that as a compliment! And you are very smart--just waiting for someone to open the door and rush out behind him---Good thinking! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, really appreciate it. Take care and have a nice day dear friend!

Hi cuttyrish! So sorry for my very late response! I guess, most of us are really very careful in entering public toilets and that is good enough for all of us since it is better to be careful than sorry in the end. Thanks for your response dear!
Take care and have a nice day!

I use my fabric covered elbow or shoulder to open the door, or I push it open with my foot. I also flush by using a piece of toilet paper to press the handle down. Although, some toilets flush on their own after the censor registers that the weight is off the toilet. I like those.

Hahaha... Ate Faith, it reminds me of the kind of comfort room we have in the mountain provinces, almost all doesn't have doorknobs so its kind of worry free cause those who use it just bump in to get in. Hehe. And it doesn't have flusher, water is just flowing freely. No need to flush. Haha.. Cute set up, isn't it?

Hi SHAMRACK! Oh that is true! If we see that the toilet is well maintained, somehow we feel comfortable using it otherwise, we do some extra precautions. haha..Thanks for your response my friend. I really appreciate your participation in this discussion.
Take care and have a wonderful day!

What I usually do after using public toilet is wash my hands right away with soap. And not only that, after washing I will apply hand sanitizer. So that would surely free from germs.
And regarding flushing, sorry to say this that I am always using my foot in flushing not my hands.

Hi dhurianne! Oh that is alright with the flushing thing, I am not the one who will be using the toilet after you're done with it. haha..Just joking! Thank you for your response and your honesty. I really appreciate it.
Take care and have a nice day!

Public toilets are like horror films really,I dont know what some folk get up to in them!!I wouldnt ever sit on a seat in a public loo thats for sure,I hover, lol and its the only way that I would do it!!!...the flush ..I usually get a bit of tissue and use that to handle the flush with, they are all so dirty. But the worst thing is when you go into them and then find that the tissue roll is completely empty, and you have to rifle through your pockets to try to find a bit, then you go to your bag to try to find a bit too.and talking of bags, unless there is a hook on the back of the door the buring question then arises ..where o you put your bag??!!!if you put it on the floor it feels contaminated!!!so I hover lol and hold on tight to my bag...what a picture!!!

thats easy, use your foot to open the door, to put the seat down & up and to flush. If you need to use your hands use a hanky or tissue. If you don't have any tissue then you have no choice but to use your bare hands.
good day

I know how many germs like to accumulate in public restrooms. I try not to touch anything with my bare hands. I push the restroom door open with my elbow or hip to get into the bathroom. I don't touch the latch on the stall door. I use my wrist or elbow to close it. I use my foot to flush the toilet. On my way out, I do the same. If I have to pull the bathroom door open to leave, I usually grab a paper towel from near the sink and use it to open the door. I guess I sound like a germophobe, but I don't know who else has touched those things before me.

I most of the time don't think about it, but I will use a liner , and flush with paper. It really depends on the bathroom to me. I'M just happy they have those push doors now .
