Have you ever forgotten your PIN number to your bank debit card or credit card?

Recently, I was going through my bill drawer and found an old debit card to my other bank account. I don't use that bank account much. Apparently, the card still has a positive balance, but I don't remember the PIN number to the card. I'd like to use the debit card for ATM's and store purchases. What am I supposed to do? Does anyone know how I can still use the bank debit card at an ATM without a PIN number? Would it be possible to get a new PIN number from the bank. Do you think it would be possible to use the debit card in online transactions, even without a PIN number?

I have sweetheart - more than once I am ashamed to admit! lol I am not sure how it works there but I know that with my bank I telephoned my branch and they sent me out a new PIN number! It did take about 10 days but if you haven't used it for a while another couple of weeks won't matter! xxx

Thankyou! I will do that. I think that would work here too. I don't know why I was freaking out about it. Guess it's like a late bill. Too late to do anything about it. But, still enough time to worry!

Well here in the Uk we just Phone or write to the Bank and they will send a New Pin Number out so why not try that I do not believe that you can purchase or pick up Money from ATM without the Pin number Maybe online but not in the Shops

I'm definitely going to try to use it online. Cause it is one of the Visa debit cards. And, it looks just like my credit cards, but just debit. So, that may work. Thanks for the idea.

Long time ago I also experienced it. But after that, I told myself that I would never make the same mistake again. Here if the password is wrong, you can't do anything, even for the online transactions. The only one way to solve it is going to the bank to change a new number. It's inconvenient. So I have to memorise all my passwords well.

Hello beautyqueen26, I really want to give you a piece of advice but I don't think this is a good advice to follow *laugh* I have many pin numbers to remember and what I do is, I jotted down the number (in a reverse order) on a piece of paper and I keep it with me all the times in my purse! But I am too clever sometimes that I love to change my pin numbers and so, that piece of paper looks a bit messy sometimes *laugh* Whenever I lost or forgot my pin number, I always go to the bank and inform them. They will issue me a new set of numbers and I need to change it immediately at the ATM machine for the security purpose. I don't think you need to have a pin number to do online transactions as that personal pin number is for your eyes only *smile*

The best thing to do is always to contact the company that you received the card from. They're about the only ones who could answer your question and they'd probably just give you a new one with a new pin. if the ATM card is also a credit card, you can usually use them for online transactions but not so much as debit cards. at least, nothing i've ever bought online allowed me to use a debit card. if I ever did pay for anything through my checking out, you have to use your checking account number and routing number...not the atm card. anyhow, the way that I remember my pin number for my debit card, which I rarely use, is basically a mnemonic device. I take the numbers of the pin and make a sentence out of them using the letters of the alphabet associated with those numbers. say for instance, it's 1234. you would make a sentence using a,b,c and d. (the first 4 letters of the alphabet.) if it was 6789 you would use f,g,h and I because they fit the 6-9th letters of the alphabet. So again...say it's 1234. sentence with abcd. all boys came down. I don't know what that means, but it works. that's totally how I remember my debit card pin number.

To get another PIN # you would have to contact the bank and as for using it without a PIN # to purchase anything like buying with transactions, that's not possible since when you buy something with a debit card, you have to punch in your PIN #. If it was a credit card, then it would just need swiping, no putting in of any PIN #'s. For online transactions, it would depend on what you're adding your debit or credit card to. If you decide to add it to your PayPal suppose, then it's not possible without your PIN # since you'll need it to verify the deposits that PayPal makes in your account.

As long as it is a debit card and not an ATM card you can use it for online transactions (debit = credit; atm = atm use only). Since you lost the pin, you can go to an actual store and use the card like a credit card. The bank will not know your pin number and they can just issue you a new card.

well, in australia, you just have to contact the bank and ask them to give you a new PIN number... of course they will verify your details first and you have to answer a series of questions... after that, they will reset your PIN and you can use the card again... you can't use it at all until you get a new PIN number from the bank...

Yes, I forgot my PIN once or twice. You just have to go to the bank, with an ID, and they "erase" your old pin and ask you to put a new one right away. so after that, you just got your new PIN, instantly! At least that's how it works in my country... Good luck!

You will need your PIN number to do anything with the card. You just have to visit your bank and they should be able to let you choose a new one. It happened to me once and they were very understanding about it. I just needed to show some id and to bring the old card and they updated my account in 5 min. I wouldn't suggest using a debit card to pay for online transactions. A credit card offers you more protection as well as zero liability if you card information is stolen.

Does your debit card have a visa symbol on it? If it does use it as a regular credit card. If not call the bank and they will send you the pin number again or if you want to create you own, you've that option too. And you can't use the card at the ATM machine.

You should contact your bank. They may be able to retrieve the PIN. I think some shops on the internet only ask for the card number but I can't be too sure.
