You know, Bleach is a hot anime just like Naruto, and I'm a anime fan, I love to watch them. But untill recent days, I find that Bleach is a strange name for the anime. I just don't know why it call "bleach". Did I make a mistake to the word "bleach"? I looked up in the dicionary, and it written: a chemical used to make things white or to kill germs; and it also can be a verb. I don't think the name can match the contents of the anime.
So I just don't understand the writer's intention for this anime. Does it have a special meaning? Who can tell me the reason?

i've been wandering on that question ever since i first downloaded the manga, which was like, a year and a half ago.
and to date, i still haven't figured it out.
as far as i can tell, it might just be a random word the mangaka (author) picked.
i mean, think about it, Japs don't really understand english. and when u see english in animes, especially if it's not just one word and come in a phrase, it really really doesn't make sense. I refuse to read too much into it on the grounds that the mangaka probably doesn't even know what the word 'bleach' means.
u really want an example of Jap's bad English? here's one:
in the series Detective Conan, they mentioned a phrase that Jap police use when witholding information. In Eng, we'd probably say that 'it's on a need to know basis and you don't need to know' or something along those lines. the phrase they use in Jap is 'need not to know' Err..... right.... that makes soo much sense

you can say "need not to know" its just not as commonly used its usually "don't need to know" not "on a need to know basis and you don't need to know" i mean that's just confusing!! lawl!!

Before i don't like watching bleach because i don't think its cool but when i started watching it, i said its ok and interesting as the other anime. But i also don't know the reason why bleach is the title of this anime. Maybe it has some connection in the story about Shinigame.

the anime bleach simply means to cleanse the world from the evil spirits.
ooorrrrr.... it could mean a mis-spelled "b-i-t-c-h". =P

To bleach is to lighten something using chemicals or sunlight. An example of bleaches is Clorox. My guess is that the story writter got inspired by clorox so he wrote the story. Or may be the manga was black in white in colour, like coloured substances that got ruined by bleach. Or may be he ran out of names. Im just joking here, I too am interested to know.

I forget what it is too, but Bleach isn't the weirdest named anime, at least in my opinion. If you want a partial list, just search Emarie's 'suggest anime' topic and you'll my response.
