I'm assuming without a lawyer because of fianances. Have you called around to make sure you really can't afford one? Fees from office to office can vary greatly. Also there are legal aid programs in many states, you may want to look into that. Any legal procedure without a lawyer can be risky, especially if he has a representative.
If you don't mind me asking, on what grounds are you seeking a divorce? If there has been any abuse in the relationship, you may want to consider a restraining order. If you feel he is neglectful of your children's needs, document it. If he's cheated, document how you know. If it's a no-fault divorce & your both reasonable people not having a lawyer may not be a problem; but keep in mind that people aren't usually reasonable when fighting over their kids & property.
