I don't know what 40,000 INR is in American Dollars, but I do know what brand not to get, unless you want to fix it every year or so. DELL. I got a laptop and the hard drive crashed a month after the 1 year warranty expires. my desktop i got, the hard drive crashes 3 times in one year so i didn't have to pay for that but still the fact that Dell sucks doesn't make up for the great deals they have.
I would recommend Gateway, or HP.

I recomend you to buy compaq or sony vaio. But in the budget of 40000 ,I dont think you can get sony laptops .So go for compaq .The amd processor comes in the range of 35000 and the intel core to duo comesaround 40000-50000.Lenova is also god but it is around 55000 for good config.I recomend you to buy sony vaio c series which is priced at 60000.

I will suggest Dell than the others computers. Because I have been using Dell for more than a year now and never faced a problems till today.
Also their support is the best thing. You can get the support, even though you bough the laptop in a different country and stay at a different country.

well, I like HP or Sony. I have Sony and my brother has HP, if you think that you need internet more than anything else then dont take AMD. I dont know what it stands for but I heard my brother said AMD makes your interest slow. Window Vista is also good. computer is cheap than before, so I think your budget will be meet because I have no idear how much your money equal in us dollar.

Hello naadia, I hope you are sufficiently confused after getting all these advices and recomendations from our friends here. What I suggest is you go for simultanious enquiries locally in your place and finalise the brand to be purchased.
I am sorry that you had an accident and broken your leg. Hope you are getting well. Wish you a happy recovery.
Thank you.

Dearest nadia. I am really sorry to hear about the accident. TRhatnk God u just broke a leg and did not have any major injuries. I will pray to god for ur Health. I am sure u will be fine very soon.
I would sugest to go for HP or Compaq, LENNOVO WOULD ALSO DO GREAT. Dont go for the other brands. Ya they r good too, but then these would be of a good budget and also provide u with good after sales service.
The best configurations would be Intel centrino or a dual core processor, 512MB RAM, 60 or 80 GB Harddisk, this is the best to suit ur budget. Dont worry about the rest. It would cost u about 32-38 thousand INR. i AM ALSO PLANNING TO BUY A LAPTOP. sAME my dad is gifting it to me. Better to go for Windows XP and not Vista as the MS OFFICE of any versions are not compatible. IT REQUIRES MS OFFICE 2007 ONLY.
All the best and take care. I will speak to u soon.

HP is definitely the best, from what I know. I would make the switch if I didn't already have a laptop.

From personal experience, get an ASUS (my 1st choice) or an HP (2nd choice). If you need an less expensive laptop, see if ACER is available at your country (they are not as robust as an asus or hp, but for cheap laptops they have a not so bad price/specs relation).
As for specs, that depends alot on what you want to do it with. Personally I recomend that if you indeed want it for a "portable" computer, then you should also not neglect the duration of battery charge (many people neglect this).
Remember, cutting edge technology is not always the best or right choice for every user.
Hope you make the right choice.
(BTW, do not buy Sony, that is just a brand and you will only pay for the brand, Sony is not, I repeat, IS NOT a computer expert manufacturer)
