Does this annoy anyone else?

I usually get quite a few replies to my discussions. I find that sometimes I will get the same things said/asked to me over and over in it... as if people ARE NOT reading the other replies at all.
It doesn't bother me if it is an opinion that a lot of people happen to share, I understand that. But sometimes they will ask me something that I have already answered numerous times in the discussion.
They just have to look on the first page to see the answer. It would save us all some time, but I guess they either want their .01 or are too busy to read the replies...
Does this happen to you? Do you get annoyed with it or just keep answering them?

I think that happens because most of us reply straight from our email notification and in that case we can't see what is already posted. Like I am doing this now so i don't know if others have posted in response to your question already.
It doesn't annoy me at all. I welcome all comments even if they are repeats.

I guess I did not take that into consideration since I don't respond to posts from my email. But Mylot guidelines say you should read all the responses before posting a new one...

Yup its weird that mylot has that rule and yet it can't be helped when you reply straight from your email. Something else mylot has to fix I guess.

Well mylot has the feature to where you can have friends posts sent to your email. This is wonderful cause that way I don't miss any posts. However, when you respond this way, you can not see the other replies until after you post. So I don't mind when others ask or state the same thing that has already been posted. It's a problem on mylot's side, it's how it's figure. But I can see how it can get aggravating. I try to give warning I am answering from email when I think I am going to repeat someone.

Without wanting to come into this discussion blind, I usually get like my other friends here have stated notifications of discussions so I go straight in 'blind' as it were, this discussion, however I went the long way round to make sure that I wasn't repeating what others were said, hence why I replied at the top rather than making a separate response to say what others before me have already said, does that make sense? Sorry I'm on a high today!

Haha no it's okay. Replies that repeat like this do not bother me. What bothers me is if someone asks a question that I have already answered a bunch of times in the discussion!

As a general rule I do not answer back to my discussions at all, or very rarely. I will answer or clarify something one time, if I think I need to. I do not let much on here bother me, as I have enough other things to bother me to last for a long long time. If they really want to know something they will have looked in the discussion before asking.

Hello molly. I can't count the number of times that I've been receiving similar responses in all my threads. I still patiently comment back on each one of them. It really doesn't irked nor annoyed me at all. For as long as the posters are not copying and pasting other responses, I wouldn't mind it. I usually replied through my email notifications.

This is probably already been said, but I don't know because I am typing my response directly from e-mail notification, which doesn't show me the other replies. I am not particularly bothered about the .01 that I will get for replying, as I just respond from what I am thinking, so this is probably why you get repeated responses to discussions. In my e-mails, I will try and remember to type on the users name and go to their profile and pick up the discussion from there. But sometimes, the discussion has not yet appeared on the profile, so I have to go from the email link again.
I'll let you into a secret now, and I have read the other response this time, but I'm afraid it's very similar to this one.. but maybe not, because I seem to have a lot to say for myself LOL
Yes, it has happened to me too, but not with all discussions. Happy myLotting :-)

What bothers me is not that people have the same things to say, really, but that I may get asked the same question over and over and if they would only read the discussion to find the answer before posting....
Plus mylot's guidelines say to read all the responses before posting a new one... seems not many people do that.

Dear wooitsmolly
I won't deny .. I myself manytimes won't read the full discussion .. and respond to the discussion .. I know I should not do like this and should read the whole discussion first before replying to it .. but the thing is .. I used to do this thing only when I wish to reach my target and I have no time .. and sometimes the discussion is so large that I think it's better to respond rather than reading the whole discussion. I know I am wrong .. but there are many mylotters just like me. But I will definitely rectify myself. It's a bad habit and it annoys the user who has started the discussion actually.

I sometimes do not read every reply because there can be quite a lot.. but I will skim and see if anyone said anything similar. If so, I might add onto their response. I know sometimes I say the same things as others, but it is just to share my opinion as well. This does not bother me, but when people start asking the same questions that I have answered before.. I feel they should have seen the answers at various other parts of the discussion.

It seems that people don't bother reading the whole discussion & replies at times. I get a laugh at that other discussion of your where people were saying "sorry that happened" when you had commented previous responses when you actually explained yourself. I have not peeked at that other one lately, but apparently, it looks like that I was the only one with a response that was entirely different from what everyone else responded with.
If it's the same people asking the same thing over & over again, especially if it is worded the exact same way, & with the same typoes, if any, it's obviously copy & paste. MyLot guidelines forbid copying & pasting the exact same response to two similar discussions. Maybe report them if that is the case.

I haven't come across any copy and pasters yet, mostly just people who don't read the other responses. Yeah, you were the only one who payed any attention on that particular one... I think it's was kind of funny but sad that people still tell me how sorry they are.

I don't get annoyed. I assume that like myself, they may be very busy, and have only limited time to observe headings, post a response and then move on.

I see your point, and it's a good one. On the other hand I've seen a few (very few) discucssions with well over a hundred postings... Sometimes separating the wheat from the chaff... well, it might be more pleasurable to run an icepick through my eyeball then read through all that. I tend to look at these "discussions" as a collection of opinions anyway, if that makes any sense.

Doesn't that kind of go against the whole point of a "discussion"? But yeah, I see what you are saying.

Generall, if a discussion has PAGES and PAGES of answers, I know I do NOT read every one before I respond, nor do I expect others to do the same for me. I don't let it bother me. I know there are people on here who are trying to earn money. And you earn by responding, not by reading. Unfortunately.

If there are that many pages of responses, I don't read them all either. I understand that. But I am saying a lot of times I will be asked the same question again and again when the answer can be found on every page of responses... it just shows that NONE of the responses were read. I always read at least some of them.

When you hit the respond to this discussion link it take you right to a page to respond so you do not get to see the entire discussion until afterwards I am sure soemone has already written this or will be.

Yes friend. I understand what you are really saying. You are right about whay you just wrote here. Some keep on posting same discussions without thinking much about it. I have seen such discussions, but I use to respond to them because some feel you don't like responding to their discussions. Thanks

Allow me to apologise if I have been one of the few who ask you duplicate questions. I don't mean to, but in answer to your question, I go straight to the response box when my e-mail notifies me of your new discussions.
MyLot only gives me the "view this entire discussion" option when someone replies to me. When a friend starts a discussion, the only option I have is "respond to this discussion."
And more often than not, the discussion I'm interested in is not on the first page in someone's profile, which is a bit of an inconvenience when I want to read other responses first. Perhaps I'm inconveniencing you instead, and I'm sorry if that's the case.

The problem could be as I am doing, I am replying from my e-mail notification. So therefore I haven't read the other responses to this discussion. I respond to discussions probably more so than straight from the discussion itself. So this could be the reason for repeats of the same.

With the large number of users like in Mylot, I think its very normal for the people not to read the replies of the other people.
May be, people should try to search before they start posting new discussions, ensuring that no one has already posted that discussion or something similar to that.

yes it does my friend , but not very often I am glad to say , sometimes the only read the heading and give such a silly answer , I know by the answer that he haven't even taken the time to read what I have written , Most of the time it is newbies and I think they are just trying to run through and earn some money , usually too they are only one liners if that even , personally I love to read the discussions because that way you get to know the person who wrote them a bit better , well! lol I think I wen't on a bit there . I hope you are enjoying My Lot , I know I do xx

if you read the mylot rules you are not suppose to read the other replies before you reply to a post. also if you are getting your post as they come out to your email you don't see the other replies. so you are just giving your opinion to what you posted. hope this helps

I wasn't asking for help lol
Mylot's rules state, under the DON'Ts category:
"Respond to a discussion until you've read all of the responses."
so I think you misread the rules.

This is actually the fault of myLot for not given us direct access to those answers.
I am using email notification to reply to questions like this present one. On the email... there is only one link "respond to this discussion".
In order to find those answers... I would need to go to your profile in order to find the question. This is all too time consuming... particulary for someone like me who is on dial-up.
myLot wants to make its users open as many pages as possible in order to generate revenue through its ebay banner. That is why it does not give us direct access to anything.
So to answer your question... I never read the answers before responding to a question. I only read the answers to my own questions. Furthermore... myLot does not pay us to read answers nor to waste our time surfing through its site. myLot is less than perfect and it has no right to expect us to be perfect.

Actually... you are not the minority at all. Most people are doing what you do... Which defeat the whole purpose of the system put in place by myLot.
It is because people don't use email notification that we have less responses to our discussions and that we have very little interaction in our discussions.

Why is it because of email notifications? How does that stop people from discussing? I am doing what mylot wants us to do... READ responses. Not just blindly post on as many discussions as possible...

I guess I am one of the only ones who does not use the email feature. I just go to the mylot homepage and look through the discussions my friends started. Then I read the responses and respond from there. I guess I am in the minority here.

Most people on this forum post topics for discussion but seldom find time enough to view others' postings and try to reply. As for me, I have always tried to respond to whatever discussions that gets my attention . People try to grab attention for themselves ..it's human nature /

Hi Molly this is one that I have probably been really guilty of but the thing is that I enter posts directly via email as I feel it is easier to keep things organised that way, therefore I don't see any of the other replies before I respond! I know the guidelines say you should read a discussion first but then why send you an email notification that does not allow you to see how the discussion had developed so far? Sorry if this annoys you sweety but it is the easiest way for me to try and keep track of my friends discussions!xxxxx
