I want to start my own blog. I do a lot of book reviews online, and I would like to collect them all in one place. Also I would like to add a section on writing. My question is...where to go to create a blog? What is the best site to launch my blog? What blogs get a lot of traffic and how do they do it? I appreciate any help!

How about sharing the address of one of your blogs?

Are your two blogs on different subjects? Which site do you think is easier to use?

My wordpress one is sort of a mini-portfolio of my photowork, while the ones I have at blogspot are my rambling writings...LOL

I use LiveJournal and 360.Yahoo and I am happy with both of them. It just depends on your personal likes and dislikes. I use Live Journal for my serious stuff and 360.yahoo for my fun stuff. I find that I get a lot of traffic on 360.yahoo.

Do you think you get more traffic because of the site or because of your subject matter?

I have a blog on LiveJournal and on MySpace. I love LiveJournal. I hate MySpace. LJ seems easier and more user friendly to me. But, that's just me.

I detest MySpace. People talk about how wonderful it is, and I have no idea how they can think that. Of course, it doesn't help that most of the material there ends up being non-readable because people decide to get fancy with the backgrounds. I won't bookmark anything I have to highlight in order to read.

I prefer blogspot.com that is where I have my writer's blog. I tried 360 (yahoo) and livejournal, but I am not completely happy with them.

Personally, the blogs I bookmark are really focused. So in your case, I would expect to find just book reviews. On blogspot, you can create more than one blog. Besides my writing blog, I have a blog about Golden Dawn (an esoteric Order that I am a member of), and this fall I think I am going to create a blog just focusing on college life.
To generate traffic, you need good content, frequent updates, and you need to market it. As soon as it has been up for awhile, submit it to blog directories; post a link to it in your signature on your emails; basically make sure that there are some links that lead to it.
After you get your blog set up, come by here and let me know where it is, so that I can take a look at it.

Thanks for all the information. I went over and checked out your blog. I'll try and go back and read a little more. For example, I am curious what you have to say about Helium. How often do you update your blog?

Occasionally stuff about Helium makes its way into my blog. I update my writer's blog a couple of times a week.
