What age do dogs usually get set in their ways?

I have a shih-tzu and a half yorkie/maltese and they have both taken a liking to not peeing on their paper or outside anymore. My yorkie is about 2 years now but my shih-tzu is about 1 year and I am scared they are going to not go back to using the paper and outside. Has anyone had this problem also?

It kind of depends. Were they going outside fairly regularly before? Has something changed in the environment? We have a 10 year old dog that has been good about her habits, but I have noticed that her personality has changed as she has gotten older. She is much more mellow and affectionate now than when she was younger. Usually sudden changes in behavior are a response to a change in the environment or thier health.

I would say it could have been from us moving but I have to say since we been at the new house they did use the paper and go outside but just sometimes I will open the door for them to go out and they just stand there and dont want to and my shih-tzu just follows anything the other one does that is why I think he no longer uses the paper. He might just trying to be stubborn as usual!
