when i was still in the philippines, i never saw someone walk their cats. due to the fact that cats in the philippines aren't locked inside the houses. they are free to roam around and they just go home when they feel like it.
but when i got here in sweden, i haven't seen any cat roaming around the streets, etc. they are taken cared of by their owners and they do stay just inside the house.
feeling sad for my boyfriend's cat (OUR cat now), i started bringing him out of the house with a leash just like what we do with our dogs. i walk our cat once a day. and i really feel happy seeing our cat enjoy being outdoors.
it's one thing i never did before but now, i find joy in doing it!
so, any new things you do today that you haven't done before?
happy myLotting!

i think its pretty cool to walk a cat on a leash.i never saw any one do it before.but recently i was doing research on line on different breeds of cats, because my family wanted to get one.and i found the most beautiful cat i have ever seen.its a seal lynx point highlander cat.so we purchased one,and right now he is 10 weeks old and he will get up to 35 pounds, the size of a dog,and they fetch, beg, sit, and walk on a leash.they are a regular house cat but look like a white tiger.and you dont need a permit for one.they are beautiful.they dont shed,so if some one has allergies to cats, these cats wont bother you at all.they have pelted fur like a tiger.

I've never heard of anyone walking a cat. I didn't think a cat would tolerate a leash. That's pretty cool that the cat likes to walk on a leash. He must be pretty smart, figuring it's better to be out on a leash than not at all. Maybe you've started something new that everyone with a cat can try.

Especially if taught at a young age, cats LOVE taking walks! Where I lived growing up, our cats went outside and would come home when they wanted to (several times a day) I am getting a cat in a few weeks, and can't let him in and out where I am living now. Maybe I will get him a harness and leash and take him for walks when me and my dog go for walks!!!!

I used to put my cat on a leash because I lived where there was so many cars going by every day and some people thought that I was over protective of my cat and mean but I told them that I cared about my cat but I never walked the cat wish I did now The cat lived 13 years. I have never seen any one walked their cat and I think it's cool.

most people walk their dogs but never walk their cats. i think it's kinda unfair. i think cats deserve to be pampered that way, too. and they sure do enjoy the fact that you wanna walk them outdoors.

I used to take my last cat for walks on a leash (sadly, he passed away back in 2004). In fact, I used to take him on car rides as well. My husband and I would take him everywhere we went. I trained our cat to be used to car rides and a leash since he was just a little kitten so it was like second nature to him. :P
My mom used to tease me about how I treated my cat like my baby. LOL None of the cats she had were ever walked on a leash...that is, until now. :P My mom's current cat is treated basically like my last cat. She even calls her cat her baby. Though I'm not sure if she takes her cat on car rides. It wouldn't surprise me if she did. LOL
By the way, the picture I added was of my cat back in 1994.

I cannot walk my three cats, they are too independent. They like to be their own people and they like to do their own thing. My cat, Dubby, loves to spend time with the single female mom cat and her little daughter next door. Do not worry, my cats are fixed. My cats tend to thing that they are human.

I have not seen people taking their cats for a walk or so but i have seen dogs taken out for walks. Cats are free here in India also so they roam anywhere they are not tied to leash and i think its not the way the cats should be treated that way. But different cultures and the cats there have been brought up in that habitat so, we cannot say whether the cats likes it or not.

I find it interesting your cat allow you to put a leash on it. Perhaps your cat has really been well-trained to allow itself to be leashed. Here in Singapore, I too have never seen a cat on leash before. Wild cats apart, it seems most cats do stay indoors and seldom venture out of the house.

My best friend walks her cats. She has two of them. She has a baby that is just over a year old and when he was first born she was not walking them like she used to and they became really moody. Her husband won't walk them on a leash so he bought her a cat stroller. It was just what they needed and they are a much happier family now. :)

Does your cat try to get away from you? I'm afraid mine would run away if I took them outside. Do you have a special kind of harness to keep them from getting away from you?

I have tried walking my cat on a leash for puppies but she is a free spirit and always wants to run everywhere and I could never keep up. I am glas you are enjoying being with your boyfriend and getting to walk his cat so it can enjoy being outside. I have always thought that cats need to get outside occasionally. Well take care.

I live in America and it is an odd thing here as well. I have a cat that loves to go outsied but I live on the busiest street in town. I dont want to wake up one day and find my cat as road kill. I decided to get him a harness and leash so that I can take him outside and still be safe.
He loves it. We dont go far he is happy staying in the yard. I took him out to a parade this past spring and every one there thought it is too adorable to see a cat on a harness and leash.

Walking a cat! sound weired, do cats even have the neck to take a leash? even if they do it will be seen as a stupid idea here, because if you love cats too much here you will be seen as diabolic! not to talk of walking with them you keep cats at home and mostly when they get to a certain age they become wild and run away from home here.

LOL. That's the first time I've heard about somebody walking their cat. I agree with you that here in our country, we just let cats roam around and they usually just get home okay.
Wow, you're in Sweden, that's Great! Best of luck to you.
