I am looking for Aran stitches. I like to make my own patterns for Aran sweaters, I am working on a sweater for my son right now and I am looking for an interesting stitch for the front panels. It is going to be a crew neck cardigan. The back is being done in a trellis with moss stitch. Each of the front pieces will start out with 45 sts. I just haven't found the stitch pattern or combination that I like yet and I really want to get it finished so I can start my next project. Any suggestions?

How about choseing a charteddesign, maybe a knotwork or scrollwork pattern, and just work it in a mix of plain and purl stitch? That would look really nice I think

That would be great but I can't find any and I can't figure out how to read charts. I am sort of new to knitting, I just seem to be good at cabling and have an eye for putting patterns together. So I have been told by family that knits.

just use a plain stitch for the white squares on a chart and a purl for the balck ones (or however they are shaded), thats all there is to it, a chart is one square equals one stitch

Sorry I took so long to respond. Thank you for the information, I spent a full day this week teaching myself how to read charts. I now have the front panels for my sons sweater picked out. Thank you again.
