On our local news the other day there was a report of a call to a home where they discovered a baby who was burned over 15% of it's body. The upshot of the whole thing was that the couple who were babysitting had gotten into a fight. During the fight the baby was burned when hot cooking grease was accidentally spilled on it. Do you think these people should be locked up? I do. When someone trusts you enough to leave you in charge of their child, you should not be fighting with your partner.

This is just unexcusable. I think they should be locked up..This is so senseless. The poor little one. Man, if I were the parents, I would be so angry and hurt..My prayers go out to the little one and her family..What is it with people today?

People today are irresponsible in a lot of ways, Feona. They can be selfish and this was pure childishness. I guess it's true that you have to be very careful who you entrust the care of your little ones to.

Yeah. If I was the parent I think they would have had to pull me off of them.

That doesn't even bear thinking about This couple should deffinately be put in prison ,that bay will be scared for life and mabe in its mind too , This is the reason when my boys were little ( now 44 , 41 and 28 ) that I only ever trusted my MUm and Dad to watch them , nowadays it is hard to leave kids with anyone unless they are family you can trust 100% , this is just horrible , but we do know that things like this do happen , and only too often xxx

That is absolutely horrible! I believe that this couple should be held accountable for their actions. Not only have they caused this child physical harm, but I'm sure in the long run if the burns are very bad it could cause emotional harm as well.

You are so right, biwasaki. These people should have known better. How childish could they get.

While I do believe that the people caring for the child have a responsibility to pay for damages; I don't believe they should be locked up.
I feel that accidents can happen regardless of what is going on.
I know someone whose child ate a Mr Clean Magic Eraser and ended up in the ER with fiberglass in his mouth and throat. Should that parent be locked up? No it was an accident that while regretable; was not the fault of the parent.
Did the oil burn the baby because it was thrown by one person at the other or did it get accidentally knocked over?

No of course in an ideal world the baby would not have been. Things do happen in the best of circumstances and with the most attentive parents.
I did say that those people should be held accountable at the very least the medical bills. I did not let them off the hook completely.

I don't understand why the baby was put near a hot cooking area in the first place. The babysitters shouldn't have been childish and took care of the baby, which is what they were paid for. They should be sued for whatever money they have because they're lucky that the oil only reached 15% of the baby's body and didn't spill more onto him/her. On the other hand, I think it's partly the parents fault because they should've asked more questions about the babysitter and see how they present themselves.

My question is what was the baby doing near hot cooking grease in the first place? I believe I would need to hear the whole story before passing judgement, but this already sounds really bad for this couple. Accidents happen sure, but something like this could have been avoided.

this is horrible... and it is so sad... how irresponsible the couple can be to be fighting while looking other someone else's baby.... and i don't understand why the baby can be so near to the hot cooking grease... the parents trust them to look after their baby and i think they had betray the parents' trust... and yes, they have to be punished in my opinion for their foolish action and for being so irresponsible plus childish...

I dont know about locked up , but they should be held accountable for their actions for sure. That poor little one should have never been anywhere near anything hot like that. If it had been my kid or grandkid someone would be in for a serious a$$ whippin.

Thats out of control.Yes I really do think they should be locked up.This baby was burned. They should have been more responsible and should not been fighting/arguing around the baby. Then around hot grease on top of that.

Although I do believe accidents do happen, I do however also believe that when a child is nearby, you should make sure that the child is kept safe in every way, shape, and form.
No one should be arguing around hot grease, and for the most part a baby or child should not be that close to the stove or any area the hot grease will be carried to. What were these people thinking? Why didn't the baby get immediate medical care for it's burns? Sometimes I really wonder about the human race.

As you said, it was an accident, but still, I would think that they would be charged with child endangerment, but it is hard to say without knowing the details of what happened.

I am sorry but if you really need to fight then it needn't be around a baby - espescially someone else's baby that has been entrusted into your care - babies need all our care and protection not being endangered by those who are supposed to look after them! I don't know exactly what happened but I would say the details should be investigated and the appropriate action taken! xxx

Of course they are responsible and need to be arrested for child endangerment. Why would they fight in front of a baby anyway, thats way out of line. They were babysitting and need to be paying attention to the baby. The parents of his poor baby must be so angry, hopefully they will hold them responsible and have them arrested if possible.
