Do you go shopping once a week, every other week, or once a month? And when you go how much do you spend and how many people in your family do you buy for?

we have a family of 4 and my hubby gets paid every other week...we use his pay for groceries - so we go grocery shopping every other week. (i get paid at the end of each month and we use my money for the mortgage and that sort of thing). i generally plan meals and have an idea of what we are going to eat in a 2 weeks span. we seldom go to the store in between, we shop at a discount grocery store and pay about $200 every other week (and yes we eat steak and other meats) in the winter i make a lot of soups and stews, in the summer, we have burgers and dogs quite a bit.

Well that makes me feel a little better, I thought I was the only one spending about $400 per month too, at times I feel that is so high. What discount store do you go to?

Hi. On grocery shopping we would spend about $180-200 a week or if we're really stocked up with food that week, we miss and go grocery shopping the following week...

We grocery shop a couple of times a week at 2 different stores. Each visit we spend around $20.

We are a family of 3. In all of our shopping trips combined we probably spend around $300 a month in groceries. We make one big trip a month to really stock up. We spend around $150 on that trip. Then throughout the month we have to make smaller trips to the store as we run out of things. These small trips can add up.

We spend between 40-75 a week at the store, it just depends on how much money we have, what we're eating, etc. There are 3 people in my household.

Between my wife and myself we try to keep grocery shopping down to under $200/month. We have cut out all junk food and are very careful about what we buy (some generics taste just as good as brand name while others you have to buy brand name). We don't have any kids and that really helps on the food budget. I have heard people with extraordinarily high bills (food)... either they are not conscous of what they buy or kids are very expensive.

There are two of us in our family now. Our sons have moved away. We do our shopping once a week and we usually spend about $100 a week which my husband says is too much. When we were expecting company, we will spend between $120 and $130 a month. However we are on a pension right now. Our grocery bill includes not only food items, but also toilet paper, paper towels, and kitchen utensils such as wooden spatulas and wooden spoons, waxed paper, ziploc bags. Because of the high cost of transportation, our vegetable and produce bill is a bit high but I will not do without lettuce and salad stuff because I value my health too much.
