stabs it! A little over the top just for losing a fishing worm or something, don't you think? I would have been amazed at seeing a sea lion so close and would have thought it cool it swiped my bait. The sea lion had to be euthanized and the man was arrested. He could face a $25,000 fine and up to a year in prison if convicted on the animal cruelty charge. A conviction on federal charges of violating the Marine Mammal Protection Act could add $12,000 in civil penalties, criminal fines of up to $20,000 and additional jail time. Wow! Check it out here.

Alot of people in our society have not been taught to contain themselves and think about their actions. Over reacting creates alot of problems and we are seeing it in the news more and more.
I hope he gets the miximum since he has to be set the example and stem the tide of violence against animals and ultimately humans.

Now that is just so sad. The poor sea lion was just looking for something to eat. Worms are everywhere so I think that guy was way out of line hurting the animal who was just wanting to eat. I could see if it was stealing fish from all the fishermen while they are reeling it in, but a worm? sheesh! He deserves a huge fine and some time in jail to think about what he did.

I think that is just plain sick. I looked for any updates to see if he was convicted but didn't find anything. I would be as you and others said... amazed... and thrilled that it ate my bait..lol Only a jerk would kill it.

That's horrible! What a jerk this guy is for doing that. I hope they throw the book at him and I bet he'll think twice before harming an animal again. Also, maybe his punishment will deter someone else from doing something similar in the future.
The poor sea lion. He was just doing what came natural to him. He didn't understand what he was doing. And to lose his life over it is just so sad. I'm glad I believe that animals go to Heaven because I know that the sea lion is happy there.
