Dumb and dumber...

and I am not talking about the movie.
My almost 11 year old just came in the house. She had been playing with the little boy across the street. I asked her why she came in. She said the boy got sent to his room for spraying his father with the hose. Huh? It's bloody hot out there and the guy is out there with his two sons. Why the heck could he not have a little fun with the kids and turn it into a water fight? That's what would have happened here. That's what would have happened when I was a kid. I remember having a water fight with my Dad. It was so much fun.
When my eldest brother died three years ago, my parents were obviously very sad. My sister spent a couple of weeks with them but got exhausted so my younger daughter and I decided to go and stay with them for a couple of days. It was DD's responsibility to make them smile (she really ought to be on stage!). I was on the phone with my sister, in my parents' bedroom when my daughter came running through. My father was chasing her with a glass of water... in his bedroom! He was laughing so hard.
How can a father send his kid to his room for having a little fun? Why didn't he just turn around and get even with the boy and turn it into a little fun with Dad? He didn't care when the kid sprayed MY DAUGHTER with the hose. And if my daughter had sprayed him, he would have turned around and gotten even and had some fun with it. But no, his kid gets sent to his room. The older brother got sent to his room for egging his little brother on.
Kids should be allowed to have fun, and parents she be able to have some fun with their kids. This one just boggles my mind. I feel like sending him an email and asking him if he is going to melt. Geesh!

it is not so many years ago when out daughter in law came here on a scorching summer day , my eldest son, her and my eldest granddaughter got the hose out wash the car , before long( you guessed it) they were all chasing each other round the garden , I joined in and so did hubby . then I got the camcorder out and started to record it , you can't hear much on the video because I was laughing so hard , it was great fun , My DIL walked him with my clean dry clothes on ( she had the large coach built pram with her ) we even had a good laugh at that as I am at least 3 sizes larger than her , This is one of the reasons we are such a close happy family , I wouldn't want that father in my family xx

Not all parents believe that "fun" is part of the package of parenting! And how did the son "spray" his father? In his face? Eyes? Any other inappropriate place? Since you don't say where or how the father was sprayed, I can only assume the son was inappropriate, not that the father is mean.

These parents yell, and even swear, at their kids all the time. They weren't going anywhere as they were home all day. If he didn't want the kid spraying him he shouldn't have had the five year old washing the car and watering the flowers. It's okay to put your kids to work, but not play with them. Not!

i agree with you..you have a point..since it was hot summer in there the daddy could have made fun with the kids and could enjoy the hot day together..they must have enjoyed every single moment of it and it could have given a nice child and father bonding..sometimes people may vary in different ways..there are people who are open minded and can take that as a little fun while others like that dad would just take it too personal and would scold their kids..

wow i guess this guy doesn't know how to have a little fun! i mean really..... the kid was just tryna help him out! it's really hot out here and i wouldn't mind being hosed down for fun. your family seems really fun, ur dad was chasing her down with a glass of water! i mean come on, kids are expected to do little funny things but some adults are just so anal about everything... loosen up! have fun! it's cool to play with ur kids cuz it builds that relationship! good luck for that guy...

I think this dad really needs to loosen up. kids are supposed to be able to have fun and having a waterfight sounds like a nice things to do with your kids. Poor kid.. trying to ahve some fun and instead get sent to his room =(

Wow, it does sound like this guy needs to loosen up a bit. Poor kid! I certainly would have just had a water fight with my kid had he done such a thing (not that he'll be doing things like that for a couple years at least).
I think some people just don't know how to have fun! =p

Its been raining up a storm here in Texas - today it finally feels like Texas in the summer & its still only 90ยบ out there.
I don't like to get wet, like my cats & neither does the roomie, but, I tell her that as sweet as she is (and she's diabetic) she isn't going to melt!

Wow. What a killjoy you would have thought that it would have become a real water fight. My kids and I had lots of them while they were growing up especially when I would wash the car....that was an open invitation for a water fight! Does he know what he is missing? What a putz!

Sounds like this dad needs to loosen up just a bit. I remember as a child, spraying each other with the hose. It was a fun way to cool off. Sounds like the dad needed to be sprayed just to cool himself off around the collar. LOL
