Hello Calais!
I live in a single studio. We do have a door bell but it doesn't ring in our room. It's on the door shared by us and the homeowner. So, the bell rings in her place. She is a very nice lady and tells us if someone has come for us.
I have had problems though, especially for the postal package deliveries when she's not home and as I don't hear the bell, I can't know if there's someone out there. I usually have to go to the post office by my own after they leave a message in the letter box. I have asked from homeowner a couple of times to fix the situation but perhaps she forgets and I don't want to push her on it. After all, I can get my stuff with a 10 minutes walk which is good for health:-)
My friends usually co-ordinate in advance and give a missed call when they arrive at my place so that I could come to door to let them in:-)

I have tried to communicate this problem to her from explicit (a couple of time) to very indirect way, as I would hate to embarrass or offend her, but it seems that she either doesn't pick or don't want to do a change for unidentified reason. I had no big problems so I go as it goes:-)

currently, even i have the ding dong one. its polyphonic and sounds nice and simple. previously we used to have an old chime. it was very soothing but we had to change it for it wasn't working okay. it was quite old and we have kept it still as a memento.

Yes, we do have a doorbell. It's sound is also the usual ding dong sound. We have a set of doorbells at the gate. And one on our main door. You see, we live in an apartment of three doors. The people who come to the house (wheteher our guests or the guests of the neighbors) always for some reason use the doorbell of ours. They always press our doorbell from the gate. I guess, it's just instinct to use the doorbell on top of the other two. We happen to have that top doorbell.LOL Gosh, we keep on opening the gate for the neighbors guests.

i have a doorbell that rings twice for the front door and once for the back door. I also have my jack russel terrier which continues to remind me that there is someone at the door with her barks until i open it.

I have a door bell, the preess buttoin kind. It just makes the usual ding dong sound. I don't like it much. This stems from years ago, when the naughty kids down the streeet, would press it numerous times. They didn't have the patience to wait for me to get to the doorr, they just had to press it numerous times. I developed an aversion to it.
Now if my hubby or kids press oit more than once, I refuse to answer.

That sounds like the one I have. I have one in the back and the one in the front. However we hardly hear it, because as soon as we hear footsteps or the car driving up, we open the door before it rings. We have one of those sensor lights as well. That helps.

Hi Calais, I dont have a doorbell or a knocker. I have two black labs that let me know every time someone walks down the street and they go wild when someone walks toward the door. I usually have no problem knowing when someone is coming to the door. Take care, Terry

Hello Calais, this is an oldy, I probably should've checked all the other responses to make sure I haven't responded already, LOL! Yep, I've got a doorbell, but it is my wife with the knockers....sorry, couldn't help myself, LOL! But yep we have push button doorbell on the front door and the side door. The one on the side door goes ding, but the front door does the ding-dong. Took me a while to work out which was which, and I kept answering the wrong door!

The house that we are renting has an old time chime doorbell, but it does not work. I think that it would make a really beautiful sound, but the renter does not want to fix it. If I am downstairs or in the bathroom I can't hear anyone knocking and that is the worst part about it. I would love to have a really melodious chime, not just the usual ding dong.

I have two different types of door bells. The one on the house by the door sounds like an old bicycle bike bell. And the one I have inside the house, is a little chihuahua that barks anytime that someone is at the door!

Cute response! I have a silent, but over-friendly kitty roommate who waits until the door is opened and the person presents themself over our threshhold. Then it's as if the cat thinks "you're mine" as he walks all around you then on top of you. I have a lap cat that loves nothing more that to be touched! Just doesn't provide very effective company-announcing!

We have three doorbells.*LOL*
One at the gate with the 'ding dong' sound.
Another inside the house (connected to the maids' quarter for them to know they're being called. It has the 'buzz' sound.
And the last upstairs still connected to the maids' quarter to let them know they're being called upstairs. With the melody type of sound.
=)

We have a doorbell that has just the standard 'ding dong' sound. This drives our dog crazy and he barks for literally an hour after the doorbell has rung. For this reason, many who know us well only knock on the door rather than ring the bell because they know what we go through with the dog!

I have several things actually. Any vehicle that pulls up outside our gate is looking for fuel....Lucy tells me this by barking. We also have a squeaky gate, if someone uses it ...I hear it and so does Lucy and she starts barking. If they climb over the fence and come up the front steps quietly they push the door bell (which is like yours) and Lucy starts barking.
There will never be anyone on my property without me knowing about it ...and Lucy too, of course...lol.

I have a door bell on my home. No knocker. The door bell only works about half the time. I have had it checked out numerous times for some kind of short in the electrics but nothing ever shows. It always works perfect when the handyman comes. It doesn't matter, I have two dogs who hear the slightest things at the door and start barking. They are my door bell.

Yes, we do have door bells in the house and we choose the bird chimps for the chime or songs that we have in our door bell but sometimes it is very irritating when I am busy in the kitchen or when my daughter is sleeping......It is very disturbing.
