Do you believed that someone can be so in-love with a person from the internet?

Well I had a friend who had a "cyber boyfriend". The guy invite her to join his circle of friends in the internet. She accepted the invitation and they become good friends.
The guy is very good in poetry and he makes the girl fall in love to him by using his poems, until such time that he wins her heart. The guy is in late 50's while the girl is in early 40's.
Then, the guy promise the girl that he is going to her country to meet and to marry her. Since the girl is so much in-love with the guy, she agreed.
As the girl waited for the guy ( which at that time is in Malaysia), the guy told the girl that he wasn't able to get permision to enter the girl's country due to political reason, but he promise the girl that he will make arrangement for the girl to travel going to where he is.
Days past by, then suddenly the communication between them stop. The girl try to call the guy but was so unfortunate to get to him instead she spoke to the guy's friend and ask him where is the guy, but he said he does not know where the guy is. The girl became so sad, she does not know what to do.
Three days after, the girl received a text message coming from the guy's friend telling her that the guy already past away five days ago. The guy's friend told her that he can't divulge the info when the girl called him because he is protecting the guy's business.
The girl cried so hard and was so depressed as she became so weak. She was emotionally and physically distressed and because of so much anxiety the girl get sick.
Until now the girl is still depress and unable to accept what was happen to the man she loved most even though they did not meet face to face.
I never thought that this kind of love affair can happen in real life, coz I only see this in movies or read in pocket books.
What can you say about this?

I think its can happen.Films r not always based on fantacies, they tell us the truth of life.i think love is beyond distance.Love has no defination,it can happen anytime, anyplace and anywhere, even with a person u even cant meet.

Me and my husband fell in love over the internet, I knew I loved him before I ever met him face to face. So it can happen. We've been together 8 1/2 very happy years.
More than likely her depression is not only for the loss but for the idea of "what could have been". She thought she had met her Prince Charming and probably had dreams of a happy future together.
I don't think this is terribly unusual, just very sad.
