Do you ever reminisce about the past? Perhaps when you hear a certain song?

I tend to reminisce alot when I hear certain songs, or smell certain smells, or even when I see a familiar scene.
When I was engaged to my exfiance, we had this song and everytime I hear it, I always look back and remember only our happy times.
Or, everytime I smell the fresh spring air after a rain, it brings back good memories.
Even when I see a certain scene on tv, I will remember times I'd seen it before, in the past, and I will reminisce.
But most of all, songs always make me reminisce.
What about you?
Do you ever reminisce about the past?
What makes you reminisce the most?
Tell all.

Oh...music is the best conjuror of old feelings. I can hardly listen to familiar songs without being transported to a past place/time/event. I'm finding now as I get older that a lot of songs transport me to one than one time/place......I don't find it too much with places...and smells just tend to make me subconciously happy...like the smell of freshly cut grass doesn't take me back to a specific time/place just makes me feel happy.

It is the same thing with me then. There are times that when listening to a particular song I am transported back to the past, to the people I was with, to the events that transpired. Oh well, life is indeed more beautiful because of our memories etched in our hearts and minds for lifetime recall. It is always nice and really uplifting to be back to the memory lane from time to time. Things we had done when we were still at tender age, to the teeenage years, to adult period of college days. People whom we met and we touced will surely come into alive because of certain songs associated with those people and events.
Oh well, life is really good as we are gifted with the ability to retain those tidbits of informations. This is especially true when we are getting older. Sometimes memories could even be the source of strenght and courage to continue on living.
Have a nice day!

A lot. There are songs which remind me of my previous crushes.
But the songs that makes me reminisce most are my elementary and high school graduation songs. Full of beautiful memories.

Memories, at the tender age of 63 years old, I do have a lot. Songs have always been a big part of my life. I do reminisce when I hear just about any song, especailly country songs. Out side of songs in grade school, I felt like country was about all there was. Then as a pre-teen and teenages in the 50's, I discovered what they now call old-time rock and roll. I do like about every kind of music even though rap doesn't do much for me.
Memories also come to me from books and reading. The answer to your question then would be a big resounding YES.
What would we have if not for our memories? It would be hard to have a dream without them.

Yes, me too. To me, every scent and sound records a certain mood, there are songs and scents that reminds me of the moody times, I will definitely avoid these, for others that "records" the cheerful times, I will always surround myself with them cos I prefer to remember the happier times.

Yes, smelling the favorite perfume of an ex-girlfriend really brings back memories for me. Also reading old love letters.
I don't know why, but the sound of rain makes me reminisce about high school.
What makes me reminisce the most is looking at my yearbooks, seeing my friends' pictures from high school and college. Surely a lot of wonderful memories there. Reminiscing makes me happy.

I am a particularly sentimental person and one of the best way to ignite my sentimentalities is through songs from the past. For example, I particularly remember the graduation song we had in high school or the song we sing during a high school program. Even those hit songs during my younger days, whenever they are played memories came flooding through. This is very much true when I am alone. Though I am not a collector of different music albums, I love music especially those which are soothing and relaxing as well as mildly danceable beats.
We all have memories from the past, they will always be a part of our lives forever. Sometimes the only thing that will remain with us are just memories of the people who touched us and others whom we touched, of place we visited, of things we have done, of successes we have attained and the failed struggles we had undergone. Joys. Pain. Happiness. Tears. Excitement. Dejectment.
All of those were just memories from the past. From time to time brought out alive by music.

There is one song that always bring my memories back to the good old time when I was still schooling. The song is Top of the world by the carpenters. That song always make me feel warm inside whenever I listen to it. Strange but true.

I think I do this too much! I had a good five years of traveling the world and volunteering. I spent many months in other countries and made tons of great friends.
If I hear a song from that country or hear someone talking about it brings back many memories. Plus I have photos around my house of some of the people I met. I have a lot of the children I worked with in an orphanage in Thailand. I miss those kids so much.
I love traveling and since I can't really do it anymore all I can do is reminisce! :)

Yah - nice topics indeed. I reminisce alot when listen certain song. One English poet said "our sweetest songs are thos that tells of saddest past" Each man or woman has saddest past and can remember like you and are getting pain in mind silently. My grievance is that I lost my mom at too early age and grown in my grandmom's home(mother's mother)who loved me alot that cannot be described in short. She was not only gramdmom but like my best best friend, at my childhood she played with me, travelled accompaning with me, I slept with her in same bed, in summer she airmed me at hot time, in winter she warmed me with rug during my deep sleep, in disease she sat at my bed side and shown her holehearted affection and dosed my medicine perfectly and prayed to God for my quick remedy. A lot of things she did for me and I can remember is when I hear song like lyric "you left me without notice silently leaving me alone in this ocean like problematic world" etc. etc.

There are really many songs that remind me of things that have passed in my life. Some are good, some sad..but they're all important because i am who i am thanks to those events they remind me of.
So yes, i do reminisce about the past, specially through music.

I believe that everyone's life has its own soundtrack - music that accompanied some of your happiest moments. My soundtrack is very diverse. It includes songs from Rush "Exit . . . Stage Left", Chicago's 1st greatest hits album, pretty much anything from Van Halen (except with Gary Cherone), and Ravel's "Bolero".

Everybody has a sweet and sour past...It gets reflected basically when an incident happens...most of the time its reflected in our mind when we hear any old songs..like after listening a song, that time gets reflected when we went to movie with frineds,...some hip hop music recalls the disco that we went with friends, some songs that made us dance during a holiday trip...those music create a virtual past sweet memory that nobody wants to forget
