I would have to say living in Louisiana the most fish we probably consume would be catfish. Since we are a seafood state it is very good we eat a lot of fish especially during summer motnhs. I would have to say though the main one is catfish.

I guess the most famous fish around here is salmon. We export quite a bit of that, and most peiple here eat it often as well. We also eat alot of cod and trout. I like to eat fish but i do not like to prepare it. Good thing our moms are good at making nice fish meals

Do you know how to make the butter sauce? I'd like to try those, maybe they'll taste good too with the fishes here in my country.
=)
I love sauces, that's why I want to know how it's done.
By the way, where are you from and is a seabass a salt-water fish?
=)

Being a Bengali, I love all types of fish, except the very small variety. The most common fish in our markets is the rohu. But this is now hilsa season, though this year, due to the Bangladesh govt’s embargo, we have had very little hilsa. I love hilsa too, but it has to be big and matured fish otherwise the small hilsas have too much bones for my liking. But big hilsas are costing the earth this year…Rs. 250 – 300/kg. Otherwise I like most varieties of fish, specially the boneless ones. Pomfret is one of my favourites too!

Catfish and Carp country around here. Smoked Carp is very popular.
I don't care much for river catfish but I do like pond catfish.
I don't fish much anymore but used to love to fish for Rainbow Trout when I lived in Colorado. They are so pretty with all the colors and very tasty!

That is hard for me to answer. I live in Texas on the Gulf of Mexico and lakes around also and there are many different types of fish, fresh water and salt water fish. I guess though for eating I prefer fried catfish and also black tail shark is very delicious.

I forgot to mention also that bass and red fish are also easy to get around here. Any of these are easy to get at fish markets, fishing boats, grocery stores and restaurants. Or you can get a fishing license and catch your own. That is what's fun.

Bass is considered very wonderful up hear. Lake Bass is stuffed and baked. Lake Trout is also considered to be a great fish to eat. It looks really nice filleted into looking like a butterfly, breaded and fried. Smelt are little fish that are breaded and fried, too. Those are the top three from our area that we eat. Northern NY State and Northern VT and Southern Quebec areas.
Interesting topic, I would have never thought of it. Thank you. What does pomfret look like? Little, medium or large? How do you prepare it? If you answered this already, just let me know what number the answer was at. Thank you.

Oh, just looked at the picture you had under the discussion starter. Looks like a good-sized fish. How did you find/put a picture of a fish on here?

In Soiuyth Australia, we have many varieties. Garfish, Whiting, King George Whiting, Snapper, Tuna & Butterfish are just some of the few I can name.
I really don't know which is the favourite of Australians?
I am not much of a fish eater, as the taste is too strong for me.
If I do eat fish, I prefer whiting or garfish.

Lake Michigan Whitefish is the local fish here. And then there's something called the Grunyon run here. Supposedly, a run happens around here and these Grunyons come to spawn every year. I've heard about it but I've never seen it. Or tasted one, I think. Your pomfret looks a bit like a flounder.
