Did You Ever Have a Bad Fall And By Some Miracle Didn't Get Really Hurt?

This actually happened to me the other night....I popped over to a friend's place just down the block from me...she met me on the landing of the staircase going up through her apartment building..she only lives on the first floor--She had some things she wanted to give me, including some cans of flavors of Fancy Feast cat food that her two pampered didn't care for and thought to give some to me for my two cats...plus she gave me some old bedsheets of hers that she no longer wanted (in great condition however)...we yakked awhile, then I'm ready to turn to leave and I miscalculated the steps! Next thing you know, yes I've fallen down the stairs..only a few steps, but I came crashing down...She was horrified and came rushing to me to see if I was all right...miraculously I was...somehow that bag of bedsheets she gave me actually cushioned my fall as I landed on top of it...If it hadn't been for that I could have no doubt broken something...why goodness I don't even have any black and blue marks from where I feel and landed--
So have you ever had a bad fall, and somehow came unscathed?

Nope, can't say that I've ever been that lucky. I have always come away with the bruises, scrapes, sprains, and muscle aches, regardless how small or big the fall is. Sometimes I feel like I;m a walking accident. Maybe I should carry a pile of blankets and sheets around with me everywhere!!

That's funny in a way--and yes for us klutzes maybe walking around with a bundle of sheets would be a great idea.--LOL

Hi pyewacket! I always get a bruise whenever I had a bad fall. I remembered when I was learning how to ride a bik! Oh my! I really got a lot of bruises. Some scars are still evident on my knees.
You're lucky you didn't get hurt. Do take care always! :)
Enjoy your weekend and God bless! \(",)_

I am the biggest one to do this, usually I walk away with bruises, but the best one was falling, and when the fall didn't seem like much and you come out with broken bones. The best one I had was one time I was walking into a house party, it had been snowing, I was living in Philadelphia at the time and this was February 1st, so gracefully as I walked I slid on the ice and fell, not once, but twice, on the same elbow, now this is before I am walking to an elegent dinner party, in my honor, no less, I picked myself, hurt like heck and went on to the party, I found out the next day that I broke my elbow and spent the next 8 months trying to get back to the way I was before the fall.

Unfortunately pywacket, I have had many falls in my life. As a matter of fact, I used to call myself "The Faller." I was just clumsy when I was young. I can't remember a single time that I've fallen and didn't end up with something broken or bruised so badly that I didn't end up taking a trip to the emergency room. I've had sprains and strains and infections(from landing in the mud). Luckily I seem to have gotten more careful as I've grown older.

Well first I'm glad you're OK. I fell down the stairs myself one - could have broken my back, but ended up with nothing more than a few bruises. It was back at my parents' house when I was about 16. I was upstairs and I heard the phone ring downstairs. My parents were both out, so I began to rush down to answer it, and somehow tripped and fell from the top to the bttom. It was quite a long, steep flight of stairs in an old-fashioned, British home, and could have been far nastier than it was. I was shaken, and, as I said, a few bruiises, but otherwise unscathed!!

a number of years ago..i somehow managed to fall in the shower. really have no idea how it happened..i dont recall actually slipping , i just remember suddenly seeing the shower wall heading right for my face.
i fell so hard that someone on the other side of the house actually heard the THUD. lol! she was sure id given myself a concussion or something but i felt just fine, though very very embarrassed. i never got a bruise, i never even got a lump on the side of my head where i tried "evasive manuevers" and didnt manage them.
its weird cause ive knocked my head with less force than that fall and gotten a huge egg on my head..but nothing ever came of my attempt to barrel thru the bathroom wall. LOL!

I have fallen into my swimming pool. If I had fallen on the cement I know I would have hurt myself quiet badly. I have fallen down a case of stairs and did not hurt myself except my lower back, I was even pregnant at the time. The baby was fine and is now 26 years old.

Sounds like you were pretty fortunate, there. The last time that I fell, resulted in breaking my leg. It still bothers me, and that's been about a year ago. I fell 5 feet off my deck. Ouch. I still feel uneasy walking down those steps.

thats funny you mentioned this,2 days ago i was playing with my children in the living room, and we were playing tag and they were jumping on me.it was fun only for the fact they are just little babies.so then i was laying on the floor and i wanted to get up,so i asked my niece to help me up and she got me up half way and their came my 36 month old son, pounced right on top of me and i flew right back down and slammed my back.i saw some stars,it really hurt.i got up and maybe 2 hours after it happened i was fine.i guess you can say im lucky i didnt strain,or pull a muscle.it was right by my tail bone where i hit.

Oh wow! That's unbelievable.
I'm glad you had those sheets there to protect you :)
I've never seriously fell before. Though I've had a few times where I almost did. Once was on a ladder while working at Walmart.

Actually yes, I have fallen and miraculously not been injured. While at the beach many years ago, I was going down the steps of the home which we had rented. The steps were wet from a brief rain and I had on rubber flip flops. I lost my footing, slipped and fell down about 6-7 steps. I was fine. (or so I thought at the time). My one ankle hurt, but I knew it wasn't broken. I iced it and went about my business. Today, if I have a long day on my feet (which happens as a nurse) by the end of the day, that ankle is the size of a tennis ball!!! It also aches in wet/damp weather. I recently had it xrayed to make sure that there was no injury years ago and that i hadn't recently re-injured the site. The xrays were negative. So, I don't know why it does its funky swelling and aching, but at least I know there are no breaks!

Yes, my husband had just told me about a fall where his Mother had broken her foot. She fell and her body landed on her foot (her butt and all her torso weight was on the foot).
It was in my third year of taking T'ai Chi. A few days later, I fell down my brother's back steps and landed on my foot, with the foot hyper-extended backwards and my butt sitting on my ankle with all my torso's weight on it. Tears came to my eyes because I figured I had broken it. I got up with my good leg taking all my weight. Then I grabbed a pole nearby to steady myself. I had to take my other hand and slowly put my foot into a normal position. When I put my weight on my foot/ankle, it was sore and I limped a little bit for about 72 hours, I had stretched it too much, but it wasn't broken.
I think all the T'ai chi I had done really saved me. Thank you for this topic.
