Do you move to the rear of the bus automatically

once you get up the bus? This discussion is for those who take public transport, either the bus or the train. If you happen to be the privileged one who drives now, you are free to voice your opinions too :P Do you move in to the far back once you get up the bus? Here, I am assuming you are not in a crowded bus which already have no leg space for standing. I have seen many people just parked themselves near the exit of the bus, which unfortunately is a the center of the bus. At times, the bus driver do ask the passengers to move to the back. People just make a step or two and that's it. So often, I see a incoming bus sardin-packed full to the front but the back is empty. It is really frustrating especially during peak hours or when one is in a hurry. The situation is similar for trains. People just like to squeeze themselves into the center of the train, near the doors, when the ends are less occupied. Friends, from where you are, do you see the same situation as here in Singapore? If you get us the bus and there is no seats for you, will you automatically move to the rear of the bus? Kindly share your observations :D

I think you know I live in Scotlan , I no longer take the bus as I have to drive people around . I have asked my son Ross if he goes to the back of the bus , he has Cerebral palsy and is a bit unsteady on his feet . he says he usually sits as near to the front as he has less chance of falling on someone , he says though that the buses round our way have never been busy , he says you can take your pick of the seats obn any bus he goes on , xxxx

Ross takes bus. That is really tough on him. How does he manage if the bus is packed?

Usually the entry of our public transport bus is up-front. I'd rather sit up front, I'm not really fond of the bus because I feel dizzy. So it's better up-front because I can see the road, to keep me from fainting. =) But if there's no choice but the rear, it's ok as long as the windows are open or I can see the outside from inside. But still, I don't like buses that much. =)

I do feel dizzy if the driver jerks all the way, more so especially when I am seated at the wheels. Perhaps it is the position where you seat. Is dizzy the main reason you don't like buses?

I don't really like buses because I need a longer travelling time. Often, it is the driver who drives slow - something I cannot tolerate. Other than that, I try to take bus at non-peak hours, so it is comfortable as it is air-conditioned.

Yeah, it's the dizziness and the feeling of being in a closed area. Plus I don't really like the odor and the feeling after traveling, sticky, whew. =) Do you like buses? Why do you? =) But somehow riding buses never caused me to puke. I guess I just don't like the feeling. =)

I would think there is a difference as one will be nearer the exit and one would have more privacy :p

Dear Whyaskq, In our city, as you say, most of the people would stand near the exit. Generally conductor ask them to go inside the bus. Those people who have to travel long distance will try to go into inside the bus and stand in the centre of the bus. Generally it depends upon the time of travel that they would make on the bus. Generally people try to stay near by exit in order to avoid jostling through crowd. Sometime the bus get so croweded, you would not know where you were and how far you are away from the destination. They used to ask the condutor how far the bus reached. To avoid the people question, at every point of bus stop, he would shout the name of the place.

I guess it is normal for people to be standing near exits. The conductor should be commended for his extra service :P

Hi Q!!Same here.I see and have experience like that. When i was going to computer classes from my home to city exactly it was like what you said.We dont have trains at my place so i was going by bus to our institute.Mornings the buses were with limited passengers and i was getting seat easily but at evenings when i return to home they were crowded..driver and conductor asking passengers to move back but they not.So conductor was going back and arranging passnegers one by one from back to front to make enough room to the passengers who get in the bus next.It was really frustrating and I troubled a lot .I was going and coming by same bus. After somedays i made the drivers and conductors as friends..and they were reserving a seat for me at the bus stand so i can go home comfrotably(i was from a village so here we can do that but it is not possible in city buses :D).Even now when i go to my Moms place ,they come and talk to me at my dad's stores. Now if i get into a bus which is crowded, i go and stand back ...Lol we can stand comfortably on back than front...

No I don't. I like to sit at the front of the bus if possible. I like to be able to get off sooner. It is my habit to grab the first seat I can find at the front of the bus.

On the contrary, I do not take the front seats as there is nothing for me to see in front. lol. Do you have separate exits for getting up the bus and alighting? I presume you go up the bus from the front.

Yeah, I prefer to sit in the back more than the front if there are sits but if there aren't at all, I would sit upfront just fine.

Here, the entry of the bus is generally situated at the back of the bus, and as you say it's not a crowded area, I opt for the middle seats. That makes it comfortable. What I see is that usually people go to the front of the bus here and if no seat is vacant, they stand in the back making the entry difficult. Then the conductor has to ask them to go forward. By the way, there is a door in the front too, but that is meant for exit.

Can people alight from the back door too? Beats me, why would people not move to the exit?

My son and I usually sit in the front of the bus if there are any seats available. If there aren't then we head to the back first then work our way to the front. It also depends on who is sitting at the back i.e. lots of guys vs girls, so if its all guys i tend to sit near the front LOL

I normally move to the back too. If the backest back is empty, I would rather be there. It has something to do with my paranoia. I prefer to have a clear view of everyone so that I may more easily respond to any attacks.
