When my husband and I had first got engaged,we had one for our family and then we got married purposley the day before the next one we were hosting. We had them again for two more years. The we could not afford it anymore and the people that were coming and asking before hand if they could help us with a donation would come, bring friends and never contribute. Now,some other relative's in the next state have one every year and we go to that.Matter of fact,it's tommorow.Does your family have reunion's?Do you participate?

Every year, the third Sunday in August, I go to the Miami Indian Family Reunion. I live in Ohio the reunion is in Indiana. It takes close to 4 hours to get there. My Native side of my family have been having the reunions for over 100 years. Some members of my family here have been going for years. I try to make it every year. Its part of my heritage and its also fun. Its just like any other family reunion, we have a group picture taken. We also have games and gifts, stuff like that. We also have drummers playing out Tribal drum and the dancers dancing around it. I went to a mini family reunion today. I think its important for families to get together and stay connected with each other. Plus there is always good food. I just got home a short time ago, I have been gone for a week. I will be running around tomorrow too. Take care and I wish you a wonderful week. So far the kittens are doing good.

The members of my family all live within a couple o hundred miles of eachother, so it's not that hard for us to get together. Now, I have re-located to AZ, so I am the one to move furthest from the "nest." Since I'm the only one who moved, it won't be hard for me to go home for certain occasions.

My step-dad's family has them. They rotate who hosts it every year and delegate different things to bring (like prizes for games, food, etc). But the family who has to host it is responsible for the organization including coming up with games for the kids and adults to play, finding a location, all that good stuff. I've only been to a few. They were fun, but not something I really miss now that I'm out of the area and unable to attend.

My father's family has a reunion every year. I don't go every year, but I got at least every other year. It's getting to the point the family is so big that it's not as much fun as it used to be.

I have family reunions organized by one of the relatives. However I don't like joining the family reunion because they demand for so many fees and monthly contribution. I think they shouldn't do this because not everybody can afford such things. At first I went for a couple of years, now I don't go anymore because they keep adding more funds and fees which I think is nonsense. And they are making it compulsory and whomever didn't pay, are looked down as if we do not belong to the family gathering. Because of that, I would rather not go. Family gathering is supposed to be done with love, not based on money. That's what I think.

i dont have a huge family..but we are pretty spread out. from Colorado and Arizona..all the way over to Pennsylvania and Florida. we have never had a family reunion. i cant really recall anybody ever talking about trying to have one either. we talk to each other during holidays and such..but for the most part we arent overly close i guess. it might be fun to try..course it might also be a HUGE pain in the rear to coordinate lol!

Yes, my family has a family reunion. In fact, we just had one towards the end of July. We rent a pavillion at a park and there is stuff there for all ages. There is a beach to go swimming or you can rent paddle boats and row boats. There is a few parks, rock climbing wall, volleyball net, basketball hoops, frisbee golf and much more. The locations is awesome, however the turn out is not. I remember growing up my brother and I always looked forward to the family reunion because we got to compete in awesome games, win great prizes and we always had a huge softball or volleyball game. Now a days, we barely have 1/4 of the people that used to show up, the games are crappy (but slowly getting better) and this year's BIG volleyball game consisted of six people. Its very sad. At the reunions we usually have family meetings to. Everyone talks about the latest news in their intermediate families. Then we hand out awards for the oldest living member, the youngest, and so forth. Hopefully we can start persuading more family members to attend because I would hate to see this thing die out!!! Family should always come first because family will be there no matter what!!

Hi there. Yes my family does have "Family Reunions" because to us, it is so important that we keep our family geneology flowing, more important for our children, to know where they came from and most of all, knowing who they are, who their tangata whenua/people are, what motu/area, whenua/country and whanau/family they belong too... A "Family Reunion" is held basically, so members of that certaint family can find out there people/relations, roots and foundation of there families and tribe... Usually when we have a "Family Reunion", it can last anywhere up to, a weekend or the whole week, depending whats on the agenda for our families... During the reunion, We learn about our whakapapa/geneology, we have family sports, games and competitions, tours of our where our forefathers/ancestors lived and grew up, we sing cultral songs and learn ancient songs of our tribes and family, we also have talent quests competitions which include singing songs of present day, we all eat together 3-4 meals a day, for the duration of the reunion, over all this is one special and awsome event, to all Maori Families, of Aotearoa/New Zealand... In our family each head from the families usually pay $100 to cover his/her family, for expenses, eg; food, accomodation, T-shirts, caps and an updated whakapapa/family book of new editions to the family, in memory of etc, during the stay... So our mom would pay $100 and this covers all her children and her partner, all the families share in the rostered chores, the cooking, cleaning and what ever else there is to be done... So its very important to participate and I always look forward to this special occassion, usually held every 5 or so years, or when the family decides to hold one... Speaking of "Family Reunions" we are due to have one soon...

Before, my family used to have family reunion, on my mother's side. We usually do it in December and assigned a family to be the host. It was a good thing actually because everybody really helps and every family involved donated money. The best thing that i did like about our family reunion was that i got to know all my grandmothers siblings, my mother's cousins and my extended cousins. The last reunion i attended was when our family was the host. Since then i didn't have time to attend and my family as well. I'm not sure if they're still having family reunion now. I have no updates anymore. cheers! :D

We have one every year. Everyone meets at a youth camp and alot of them stay the night (They have a girls room with bunks and guys room with bunks) They have a jar that says donations on it and everyone donates enough money that they are able to use all the money from that, for the food and drinks next year and have plenty of money. Everyone who stays the night has to pay a small fee and that pays for the use of the camp. There is a pool, volleyball court, basketball court and softball area. i just got back yesterday from it.

They have had several so far and I was only able to attend one years ago. On my fathers side there is another one coming up next year in New Zealand, but it is around the same time my sister in law gets married so I don't think we will be going back for that.

Yes, usually we will have a reunion in the Chinese New Year. Then my aunts, uncles and their children will come together and we will have a feast together. This is the common way to pass the Chinese New Year.

my family have family reunions, in my father's side, I attend regularly too, and my mother's side, which I equally attend also. I have been married for 10 months now, and I haven't attended family reunion of my wife yet. Family reunions are necessary in order for us to keep in touch with one another, in our busy, busy life. we sometimes forget about spending time with our family. Relatives, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, children, adults, and grandparents are just some of the reasons why we should engage and participate in family reunions. I love family reunions, and usually family reunions takes place during christmas season, wherein our relatives abroad go home here in the philippines to meet us. We, filipinos have high family bonding and extend our relationships even up to the 4th or even 5th degree relatives. This is a good thing but also possess some disadvantages. But for me personally I see family reunions as an advantage, it makes us emotional strong and we would always be confident that at very critical and risky times we could go back to our family. family reunions reinforces the bond between relatives, assures us of love, and increases our social lives. I encourage people to have family reunions and to actively participate with one.
