How important is it for you to travel the world?

Lets face it... for the majority of people... travelling overseas is still a luxury that they cannot afford. Even in our well developed western world... there are still people who are born in their little village and die in that same little village without even visiting their capital city once in their lifetime.
So what make us wanting to travel the world?
1)Is it by curiosity? Do you want to see how other people live... so that you can appreciate what you have at home? This seem to be the norm in Australia. People will visit the most beautiful cities in the world and claim that they are super happy to be back home... in Australia.
2) Do you do it because it is the cool thing to do? Your friends did it... so you have to do it too?
3) Is it like an exotic trip. Is it exciting because it is something that not everyone can do... and even for you... it is not something you can afford to do every year?
Please share your excitement with us and let us know why it is important for you to travel the world.

Being born in the city then being raised from the age of 8 in a small southern new jersey town- I totally agree with the fact that some people are born where they die- never venturing out into the world. People from around my way are very close minded to the fact that there is a whole world outside our little town.
I remember being a small child, I loved to read from the time I learned how. Reading made me want to travel the world. Reading made me wonder, understand and study different cultures, eventually making me want to experience them first hand.
Unfortunelty, I am one of those in society that cannot just afford to go abroad, so instead- I travel within the US for the time being. I plan on making it to different islands such as Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic because my own heritage and culture lie in both.
I've traveled to Washington D.C., Baltimore MD, Fayetteville NC, Orlando FL, Tampa FL, and Miami Fl.
One day I hope to also visit Italy- to experience the art museums and structures.

Well I haven't been doing much traveling in years due to the same problem you have...agoraphobia, and the irony of it all was when I was much younger, all I wanted to do was pack up my camera gear and just travel, travel, travel--anywhere! Perhaps it was because I fancied myself as a National Geographic kind of photographer. I still have that as a goal of mine as I don't plan to have this condition the rest of my life...there to many things I want to do and see, and yes mainly travel all over the place...All I know is I would first love to travel all over this country (US), then Canada...want to go to the British Isles, Germany, France, and ever since I saw Lord Of The Rings and Chronicles of Narnia both of which were filmed in New Zealand and in your down under country would love to go there as well...and when I do travel, you bet I'm going to need a truckload of film ...

Well... thanks to digital cameras... you don't need film anymore. Just a large hard drive on your laptop to store your pictures on.
As for the agoraphobia... besides prescribing pills... my doctors don't seem to have a solution. All they taught me was that it was a double dose of anxiety which created the agoraphobia. And once you got it... well...

The day I get attention or sympathy for my problem will be the day of the second coming... lol
According to the documentation given to me by the doctors... there is no short term solution. It is a long term therapy which can take years rather than months. It is not a cure either... but rather it is about learning to control your fears... something you have to keep doing for the rest of your life.
The rate of success is one in six while using medication. And one in three while using cognitive behaviour therapy. The later one is by far the most successful method as it last the longest after the end of the treatment. But still... it does not last for ever.

well, eventually I do plan to get a digital camera, but I'm still a film user and love using film especially since I develop film and prints myself..at least black and white...now that I have my own computer and film scanner am making digitized versions of my slides--As for what you said about having this condition...I believe if you really want to get over it you can..so much is the power of the mind....Many of my past discussions have to do with the Law Of Attraction..a principle I have actually known all my life but never did full steam ahead...and this can go for healing oneself of any problem--I firmly believe I can get over this condition...I hate to say it, but it sounds like you want to remain agoraphobic..well, that's your choice...don't mean to sound harsh...but are you clinging to this condition to get sympathy?...I'm not the one saying this...It's all in Lucinda Bassett's tape program in Attacking Anxiety..one tape is called Secondary gains...what are you gaining from hanging on to this condition?....it a tough pill to swallow, but many of us who have this condition cling to it to get attention and sympathy...I choose not to.

"Travel makesth the man". I would like to travel all over the world only to meet different kinds of people, see different places of interest and understand the world. I had been to USA, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, UAE, Nepal. I would like to see other parts of the World. It is not important, it is my desire.

I don't travel very much, but it has always been a dream of mine to travel. When I was really young I went on a few cross-country (USA) road trips with my Dad. I think the most appealing thing about traveling is the different experiences.
Sure, you can sit at home and work or go hangout with friends, etc. But nothing beats trying to find a hotel in a place where nobody speaks your language at 2 in the morning. :)

I don't know if I want to travel everywhere in the world...but there are a number of places I'd like to visit. Australia is certainly one place both my hubby and I would like to experience. We love the Southwest part of the U.S. and plan to go back. Alaska and Costa Rica are other areas that have a pull for us. The Hawaian Islands have appeal. We both have been to Vancouver in the past and want to go back there. Most of the places that we are drawn to are places where we can hike, swim and get out and enjoy nature.
We are not interested in travelling because other people do it or because it is something not everyone can do. Our interest in travelling is to experience other places and meet new people. Oftentimes the best trips we've had are the ones where we get in the car and let the road take us where it will.

Yes I know what you mean. In my younger days... I did that a lot. I would get in my car with my girl friend and leave for two weeks on a camping trip with no firm destination. We would stop each time we did find a new place we liked. It was an adventure.

Just checked best responses and noticed my comments received yours...thank you. I was also re-reading your dialogue with Pyewacket about the agrophobic condition you share.
You have probably picked up by now that I am a firm beleiver in exploring most everything from the inner dynamics of any situation and peeling back the layers until the core of the problem comes to light. You are a bright, intelligent person from the sound of your posts...but perhaps the focus on the 'practical...five sense three dimenstional' perspective you inhabit within your inner world could be preventing you you considering other alternatives.
I have seen some amazing metamorphic changes in people by combining their regular therapies with some of the more esoteric approaches...including the law of attraction. Within that approach the motto I live by comes up again..."Anything the human mind can conceive and beleive...it can acheive."
Speaking of that, have you seen the movie What the Bleep Do We Know Anyway? If you have a chance to see it...it is presents an unusual look at this idea from a number of different 'lens.'I posted a topic that only one person replied to...(the movie has a select following) but I'd like to chat with about it if you do see it.
In the meantime I value your views...and enjoy the on-line friendship.
So long for now

I love learning about a new culture. I lived in Germany for two years which completely opened my eyes. And learning the language and how to cook the food and assimilating into the culture is part of the fun. This is how I travel. I do what I can even if it is just for a week or a weekend.
My friends actually don't really travel. I've ASKED. I wanted to find a friend to visit Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State. My husband was planning on climbing Rainier which would give me several days of down time. I couldn't find anyone. So in my circle, it is often HARD getting anyone to go anywhere with me. :)

It is very important for me to travel to certain oversees countries because I feel as though I have to go there sometimes. For example I feel the urge to visit Italy-in particular Sicily where my family orginates. I feel a bond and if I don't go there soon I'll explode! Also I HAVE to go to Memphis Tennessee to visit Graceland. That is someonwhere that has to be visited by me in the next 5 years. i wouldn't travel just because my friends were. Travalling is a personal thing i think, and I thinkit's stupid to go overseas just because your friends went/are going there.

It would be nice, but it's a luxury I can't afford. And I'm fine with that (for now).

I have travelled the world since I was 2. I now live back home in the UK but my parents live in Portugal and my mother-in-law lives in Ireland, so I go to see them both fairly often. I am going on holiday to America next year (for the 3rd time). I feel travel is a passion and I wont stop until and am physically unable to do it.

actually it's something like my obsession to be able travelling around the world. Till now i have seen Singapore,Australia,Switzerland and Holland. Next month hopefully i can visit Germany. I think it's a cool thing to do.I mean able to see vary differences and obviously uniques...something like that gives you much to be learnt and enrich you with new knowledge which you can share it to others. I could understand why they do that, why they eat this, bla,,bla,,
it's really fun and i really enjoy it. Also i can compare other country to my own from many sides of it.it's fun!

Traveling the world should be cheaper. It should be easily available to every one. I am 27 and still haven't traveled my country let alone the World! I hope to travel before i turn 30. To those of you who want to travel, if you are still young and childless, then i advise you not to have any kids until you have traveled! I have a 4 year old and my life has limits!!

I really have little desire to travel. If I could really afford it I would probably travel to England. This is where my ancestors came from, and also there is so much history there. While it would be good to see some historical sites I would like to spend time in the smaller towns and villages. I'm not sure why.

Yes, I traveled around the world when I was 2o years old. For me it was something that I had wanted to do since I was a child. I had dreamed of meeting other cultures, seeing sites and watching wildlife. I was excited about seeing different landscapes. I planned to go to the USA, Fiji, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. I was away for a whole year and it was one of the best things I have done in my life so far.
I am addicted to travel I think. I do it whenever I can afford the money and the time. I have been lucky enough to visit some lovely places in the world already and plan to visit many more. I loved seeing the wildlife of Belize and the interesting Mayan ruins. I enjoyed going on safari to see the wildlife in Kenya. I developed a love for tropical islands and visited the Seychelles, the Maldives, Fiji, French Polynesia, the Cook Islands and Samoa. I have seen world religion in Israel and the amazing site of Petra in the Jordanian desert.

I think I travel because of passion. I want to see places. Especially those who have this 'special' story behind like the Ang Kor Watt in Cambodia or the Terracotta army in China. I am always fascinated by such.

I think it's our inherent dream to teavel the world.Living in such realistic society, I always feel very tired, even if I'm still a student now.
Long before I had given myself word that one day I will tour around the world.Everytime when I found there's some blemish in my life,I always told myself that this world is really good, just took the bad thing away.
I took every chances that I can travel.China is a beautiful country and it has many places of interest.Well come
