Should kids have TV rationed?

The amount of time children spend watching television should be rationed to prevent health and learning problems, an expert is to tell MPs.
Professor Aric Sigman wants to ban 3 year olds from watching any television. He said that upto seven years old, children should only be allowed half an hour of TV and even by the time they are teenagers, the maximum they should watch is two hours a day.
Are you a parent with young children? How much television do your children watch? Do you agree with Dr. Sigman? Should the government tell parents how much TV their children should watch?

i agree with this. i actually already limited my children's tv time from the very start. my hubby and i don't watch that much tv anyway so my 4-year old is not that into watching either. we just let him watch an episode of dora the explorer every now and then and some other educational dvds. otherwise, we give him sheets of paper for him to draw or write or make origami. he also likes books and listening to music. this is what we plan to do also to our now 1-year old baby girl.

You made a very good point. If parents do not watch much television themselves then their children are less likely to be addicted to television. Children tend to follow by example and it is very important for them to see that there is a reason why TV time is being rationed and that their parents do not break the rules themselves.

I agree that TV should be rationed, a lot. I let my daughter when very young watch good kiddies shows, such as play school. At the same time I encouraged an interest in other activities such as art, craft, sport & reading. Now she hardly ever watches TV & she ius 14.
My step children watch way too much TV. My step son has no other interests in life. I try to limit it, but theiur Father allows more TV to keep them happy.

Good point you've got there. I think one of the reasons why kids tend to watch too much TV is because they haven't got anything else to do. Now, if like your daughter, other children would be exposed to sports, arts, crafts, reading, etc. then there's no way they would want to stay in front of the telly as much.

I am going to say I disagree with children not being able to watch tv.. There are alot of programs on the tv a child can learn from.. I am talking about educational ones.. On Direct tv anyway there are all sorts of them.. For the government to ban children from watching tv I strongly disagree.. My son watched these when he was that age and he's a very smart child, he did learn alot not to mention the help of my husband and I.. So for the government to say what we can and not let our child do in our home is wrong.. Just my oppion!

Only if they have it rationed :-) Would be depriving kids of their karma if we deprived them of TV. Everything on this world has it's effects. Too much TV when young would produce its own challenges later in life in overcoming its effects. Disciplining the kids would produce challenges of discipline later in life. Discipline is needed at one point or another once a person realises that he/she has got a problem that needs solving. Then if it's continued to be ignored, the need for discipline becomes even more urgent to stop the onset of some sort of illness.
The government seems to do what the government wants to do these days. Kid seem to do what kids want to do these days also :-)

i agree with dr.sigman.it isn't good for people watch TV for a long time a day, specially for children, when i was a child,i watched TV everyday for more than 3 hours, and more than 6 hours in holidays,my parents always blamed me,until i went to high school,i lived in school and hardly watch TV,and now i watch TV less than before.recently it reported that watching TV for a long time would influnce childrn's intelligence.so my parents should be careful about how much and how often your children watching TV.

Yes,I think so.Most of the children can't manage themselves efficiently. They may spend a lot of time watching TV.The TV maker won't think about this. They want people to watch TV as long as they can.Buy it's harmful for the children to learn and also to their health.

Yeah, I think a little bit of TV is good for them but too much of it is never good for them at all.

I gree with wat Dr. Sigman says. Childrens below 3 yrs old should no television and it should be rationed for older youngster and have thier parents guidance while watching tv. Because other than it is not good to thier health, shows also in tv are not good example for the children. Cartoons have fight scenes and love scenes. So at early age they learned things that should not a 3 yrs. old child should learned.
