Hello there dfollin!
I block off the long distance calling on my home phone because I have previously experienced a huge bill for long distance calls I never made! I use a calling card, I usually buy the %5.00 calling card because I only call the US twice a month. The %5.00 card is about 110 minutes to the US and well worth it/ The land line rates are something like $0.14 cents a minute through the phone company…lol..
There are many phone cards for me to choose from but I stick with Verizon because it has the best rates.

Other then cell phone cards I don't think they make phone cards anymore here in the state's.It is cheaper to get an unlimited long distance service.Beside's I get a discount with my TV's,phone and internet coming from the same company. And to run our alarm system we must have an operating landline phone.

i use my cell phone for longdistanc but national calls. Specially on the weekend and after 9 pm everyday, so its never problem ith that. But for Internatonal call I often use tha calling card too, there are many nice calling cards in the market and they are much more cheaper then landlines or cell phones so I find a card suitable to The Country i want to call and use it.

Right now I have a cell phone with unlimited long distance and I also have unlimited long distance on my land line.
I am about to switch to Skype though. It's only $30 for the entire year.
That will save me $20 a month, or about $210 a year.

I use my cell phone most of the time- We have so many free minutes that never get used up- so I try to call from the cell- Free- when I call from my home phone (landline) I get charged- It’s a no brainer- for us- My sig. other hates the cell phones so he still uses the land line all the time!

We use our land line. We have Shaw and they allow free long distance calls in Canada and the United States and a minimum charge to Great Britain. I do have a cell phone, but they will charge an extra fee for long distance, and other charges, and I am waiting until it gets unblocked because we plan to travel a lot. My Old Age Security comes in March and I will be able to add services to my cell phone then.

I rarely use the phone to make long distance calls here in the US but I do make to Mexico so I use my land line phone to make these calls. When I need to make long distance calls here in the US I wait until after 7:00 pm and use my cell phone.

I usually use my landline to make long distance calls to New Zealand where most of my family are. They usually call us though because they have specials in the weekends.

I don't have the option of making long distance calls using my landline since I have Lifeline service (for people with limited incomes below a certain amount).
Thank goodness for the cell phone. I can call long distance without charge -- just the minutes and that's part of the plan. I really like the 1000 minutes on weekends feature, even though I never use my minutes up.

It doesn't matter whether I use my landline or cell phone because I use Onesuite.com dial around service. I pick up my phone then dial Onesuite access number, it recognizes my phone so it wont ask me for a PIN then ask me to dial the number I wish to reach. Now I am also using their voip service and its gives me more access to the service specially when I travel.

We don't even have a landline phone, decided as much as we use the cells to communicat between my husband and I that we would use just them. So obviously I use them to make long distance calls, as there is no extra charge, and I have free nights and weekends.
