You can look around your area and take note of the different real estate companies and then look at their personal websites. A lot of companies don't list houses on realtor.com. You might also check out the real estate section on ebay.

As a real estate agent, I would have to say that the best way to shop for a home is through a real estate agent. They have access to broker's MLS service which will list every house on the market and the current status of that house. Your agent an also help you get pre-qualified for a mortgage so you have a committment in place before you make an offer. Your full-service agent, like myself, will also help you get legal counsel, a home inspection and even a moving company, if necessary. There's no fee for having an agent help you find a home until you enter into a contract so let a licensed agent help you find your dream home.

Kristy's has a good solution. Check the local realtors and see what they have listed.
I also suggest www.remax.com, www.century21.com, and www.coldwellbanker.com. I think these are nationwide realtor offices, and should have listings for just about anywhere in the USA.
Another place to check is www.fsbo.com. (For Sale By Owner) These aren't linked to any realtor, just a collection of homes being sold by the owners.
Best wishes to the house hunt! There are several really nice ones here in my town, but I suppose you don't want to move to Iowa. I'd love to have you as a neighbor, though!!!
