There's a simple, easy step you can take that will exert a positive, powerful influence in a variety of situations. That simple act is a genuine smile from the heart. Smile, and not only does it improve your appearance, it improves all of you. Smile, and you cannot avoid being more positive toward life. Smile as you speak, and your voice will be more confident, enthusiastic and convincing. Even when you're talking over the phone and the person at the other end can't see you, a smile adds noticeable value to the conversation. Give a smile to others, and you instantly improve the quality of each encounter. Smile to yourself, and new positive possibilities come clearly into view. A smile costs you nothing, and yet it can bring so very much. Take a look around, and you'll see that the most successful and fulfilled people are those who smile the most. Even when you can't think of a reason to smile, smile anyway. Smile, and you'll surely create plenty of good reasons. Ralph Marston ******************** I will try to smile a little more today than I did yesterday, even though my husband and I have poison ivy and haven't slept much in 2 days, I'm going to smile. I hope this brightens your day.

smiling is so great and such a positive reflection on someone.smiling is infectious, you can catch it like the flu, when someone smiled at me today,i felt like smiling too,i passed around the corner and someone saw me grin, but when he saw me i relized i passed it on to him,i thought about that smile, then i realized its worth,a singel smile like mine can travel around the earth,so if you feel a smile begin, dont leave it undetected, lets start a epidemic quick and get the world infected.i hope you enjoy this.i have a smile now,and hopefully you will too.this brightened my day thanks.

That is a wonderful reminder, and you have an excellent attitude. And you're right! I found out yesterday I have an awful situation going on with my eyes. My retina is in danger of detaching. And I was just so thankful I could currently see, that all I did was smile when the eye doctor tried to reassure me. I just knew that right then, I had no reason to do anything BUT smile. And there's always that fact that it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile.

Thanks Pam! I'm so glad you got reassuring news about your eyes. That is very scary, I can't imagine. My mother is in the same situation and I know how scared she was when she got the news. Keep up the great attitude hon, it definitely helps in frightening situations. I'm sending a ((((hug)))) and good thoughts your way for continued eye health. :D

Hello craftcatcher, I think I am a lucky person. I love to smile. Not only smiling, I love to laugh and to talk too *smiles* I read somewhere when you show a positive attitude and laugh a lot, it will make you look younger... I am not too sure but I love the idea to look younger but I don't want to be young forever *laughs*

I'm a laugher too, I always try to throw in a joke or something witty into a conversation to make people laugh. It makes everyone feel better, comfortable and safe. The looking younger part is just a big bonus! Thanks gr8life!

Thanks for sharing the smile with us. Before,I smile just because I want to smile.Today I know a smile from heart can also make others feel better. Just like feeling and attitude will spread to those you talk to of meet. i think I will continue to smile more. And I really like This sentense----(The most successful and fullfilled people are those who smile the most.)******* I will try to prove that.*^_^*

You are absolutely right, attitude and feeling can be contagious. I'm glad you will try to prove that the most successfull and fulfilled people are those who smile the most. I believe that is a fact. People in general are always drawn to enthusiastic, happy individuals. That is the first step to being successful, getting people to come to you and listen to what you have to say. Thanks wintersweet!

I am sorry about your poison ivy, but I agree, a smile makes lots of things better. It helps my own attitude a lot when I smile, so I might as well do it, and reap the benefits. Smiling causes much fewer wrinkles than frowning, and I do not know about you, but I love the crinkly lines people get by their eyes that say "This is a smiling person, a happy, positive person." Meanwhile, use some colloidal oatmeal in your bath to help your itch. Hugs, and good day.

Thanks GG, my breakout isn't bad at all, just a couple spots on my legs but my poor hubby is covered. He can't sleep and stayed home from work today to rest. I picked up some anti-itch stuff at the store so we're going to try that. Did the oatmeal and it didn't help for long. I always liked those laugh lines too, you can always tell a happy person by those lines and they never make a person look old. Frown lines definitely make a person look older than they are. Keep smilin' sweety :D

Well, I was smiling and thinking "This is such good advice!" But then I read about the poison ivy. OUCH! Well, I smile every night before sleeping and every morning first upon waking and quite a bit throughout every day, but that is just my normal disposition. It is not really something I have to plan to do. I mean, if I am not going to be happy and enjoy my own life, that is not something another person should be able or willing to do for me. It is just common sense. But smiling and itching, that might take a little more thought! Hope you are better really soon!

It's fantastic that you have such a sunny disposition. I'm sure you brighten many people's days. Oh this poison ivy. Yuck. Fortunately my outbreak isn't too bad, just a few spots but my hubby is covered all over his arms and legs, he's a mess. He's not doing much smiling for a while! :D Thanks

Thanks so much for all the tips. I've had it several times and I ended up with a really bad infection twice with a trip to the doctor, Prednisone, Benadryl and antibiotics. Cool oatmeal baths was about the only thing that helped for me. But I never tried baking soda. This is my husband's first time. So far we've tried several different things and the only thing that's helped is oatmeal too. He's in the tub now with the baking soda so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I picked up Benadryl, hydrocortisone, I even got a brainstorm and picked up some Vagisil because of the Benzocaine in it. I thought maybe the numbing would help. Hey I'm willing to try anything! Poor guy, I know what he's going thru and it is nothing but maddening. Thanks again :D

Poison ivy is so potent that you don't have to actually touch the plant to get a rash. You can get it from smoke if the ivy is burned in a fire, from touching a pet or even another person who has touched the plant, or just from passing near the leaves or vine without touching them at all. Of course, the fastest way to catch it is from another person who has the rash already and has been scratching it, so please take care that your husband does not reinfect you! The best way I know of to prevent recontamination is to wash well with Fels Naptha soap, which is able to penetrate and wash away the oils from this plant before they get a chance to cause a rash. Have you tried bathing in baking soda? First you want to soak a bit in very hot water, assuming you have no other adverse health conditions, that is. Then cool the water a bit and dump quite a bit of Arm & Hammer in there and soak a while. This is help draw the poison out. Then you want to put a little baking soda in a glass and dilute it with water. Drinking this will help alkalize your body internally and greatly relieve the itching for hours to come. I used to have a dog who loved to run through the poison ivy and then to come back and rub against me, so I have quite a bit of experience with poison ivy and have tried just about all the remedies, but baking soda inside and out has always worked best. Putting it on outside helps dry up the oozing and thus prevents recontamination by scratching or touching. Drinking it reverses acid, rendering the poison less effective. If you are on a salt-restricted diet, then instead of drinking a glass of water with baking soda stirred into it, you can also alkalize with an apple cider vinegar and honey "cocktail" (equal parts of honey and vinegar diluted with cold water.) In addition to correcting your Ph-balance, the apple cider vinegar contains specific B-vitamins and minerals that ease pain...and that should keep you smiling!

I'm not sure which one made me smile more, the smile story or the fact that you and your husband have poison ivy. You did make me smile, and I thank you..*smile*..I think it is very important for us to smile, I know it makes me feel a lot better when I do. I smile alot more as an adult then I did as a child..I remember people telling me to smile when I was a child..I hope you two get to feeling better and get some sleep.

well,i agree with you totally. simle is the most important weapon, especially for women. And there is also another chinese saying that smile a lot,and you will stay young. but to my understanding, simle mean you feel happy from the bottom of your heart, not just pretend to be. that is why we compare the simle to beautiful flowers.

You made me smile a lot today. Smile is contagious. A warm and happy smile brightens ones day and make you feel beautiful. It's a positive attitude wearing a smile in encountering other people. It will always remain in them the look you have portrayed especially if your wearing that charming smile.

I always try to smile, even in and especially adverse times...have you ever notice how many grumpy looking people there are in the world..just walk down any block and you'll see them...I've noticed that when I smile while walking down the street, how often someone will smile back at me. What a nice feeling and for a moment one feels connected with that person...This whole idea of smiling is sort of a Law Of Attraction thing...the idea too, of just being grateful for everything--by smiling you're putting yourself in a positive frame of mind rather than negative Yikes..poison ivy?? What's this an epidemic...so many people have been in contact with that lately...LOL

I agree with the Law of Attraction idea. When a person comes in a room, smiling and enthusiastic, people are drawn to that person. They immediately feel comfortable with them because they are "safe". A positive frame of mind goes a long way! Thanks hon. Yep, I think there must be a poison ivy epidemic going. We're not the only ones who are miserably uncomfortable tonight... LOL.

yeah, everyone should smile more! i wish people would smile at each other. i love to smile, unless i'm feeling really really down or cheesed off. there are people at work who just don't smile and i feel like asking them why can't they just "donate" a few smiles to their colleagues, even though we're not working in the same division? is that hard? and it's weird too, like when you wanna smile to someone but they don't smile back..but if you're the one who doesn't smile, they call you arrogant. oh well. keep smiling though!:D
