Have you ever had a nightmare you couldn't get off your mind?

I very seldom have nightmares but when I do their usually very scary and wake me up in the middle of the night! Of course trying to get back to sleep is never easy after that. More than once a nightmare has stayed with me the whole day and I would do anything to get it off my mind. Sometimes I can and other times it's not so easy. Do you ever have nightmares? Do they stay with you throughout the next day or do you forget about them?

I have some of them when I was a teenager, I was really struggling shaking it off my mind. Though it didn't affected much of my actions, I have times where I get goosebumps in quiet places. So I have to be with somebody the whole, just to keep my thoughts away from it.

It's always good to have someone with us when we're afraid isn't it?

When I was a kid I used to have these nightmare about my 3rd grade teacher. Considering it's been over 15 years since I had those nightmares but still remember it, they always bothered me. I actually still have horrible nightmares sometimes that freak me out so much when I wake up. I hate it. I do watch a lot of horror movies but I don't think they've ever been the cause of my nightmares. But they are ridiculous and I think they'd scare anyone!

I definitely know what you mean. I'm always watching horror movies and even though I say they don't bother me there have been times I've had a weird dream that I have to say came from a movie I watched.

Yeah. Mine are never caused by bad movies though. So I'd rather have them because of horror movies, at least I'd know the cause.

I haven't had a nightmare for a long time. Instead I have weird dreams. They are not scary but they are weird enough to wake me up.Luckily as soon as I get up, I forget them.I have had good dreams that I have remembered all day but not nightmares. When I have seen something that I think will keep me awake, like the handful of horror films I have seen, I would see a funny movie afterwards. After seeing the movie I didn't have nightmares.Sweet Dreams.

I always try to watch a comedy after I've watched my horror movies too. Sometimes it's very helpful and sometimes not.

Yes, sometimes, I get these nightmares. Unfortunately. They can be very disturbing and taunt me for days. For instance, I once posted about a disturbing dream I had on snakes. I don't want to paste everything here and mess up your discussion but you can take a look at http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1003331.aspx if you are interested. Cheers.

Hi. Ive had my big share of waking on terrible nightmares, and when this use to happen, I'd wake someone up, so I could talk about it because that way it was easier for me to go back to sleep again and didnt play on my mind...

My nightmares are more of things happening that make me sad. Like something happening to the children, family or my man. I usually don't remember my dreams but if I wake from a real bad one it will bug my for a while. Sometimes I need to check on everyone I love just to make sure they are okay cause I was so frightened something happened to them.

I've had dreams where I had to call my kids when I woke up just to make myself feel better!

The only dreams that scare me and wake me up all shaken is when it has to do with my family members, particularly my husband and kids. I used to have dreams about me catching my husband with another woman. These drove me crazy until I realized the reason I was having the dreams - I was insecure. Once I came to that realization the dreams stopped. But now DH is away partying it up and I get insecure when this happens thinking he will drink too much and fall into bed with some old girlfriend, and so I had a dream the other night. Waking up to an empty pillow beside me gave me no reassurance as the dreams of the past have done. My husband was usually there for me to clutch onto for comfort. I was so upset by this dream the other night that I was unsettled until I was able to speak to him on the phone. As a writer I wish for more creative dreams rather than nightmares. As a woman who has lost both a father and brother in the past three years I wish for them to come to me in my dreams. They do. My brother is pretty clear when he visits; my father only sends me puzzling messages that I wish were more clear. I try to write down my dreams if I remember them but a lot of the times I don't. They still leave me unsettled BECAUSE I can't remember them but know there was something that just wasn't right. All a part of life I guess. Sweet dreams to you!

I had the same nightmare quite often over a large number of years. I would wake up screaming, with a huge tarantula-type spider crawling down my face. My husband said I had goose bumps the size of pumpkins. I would tell myself there couldn't be a spider there, and it must have been a dream because it was dark and I wouldn't be able to see it anyway. But that never calmed me. I know why I had that dream. It all referred back to a day when I was about 11 years old. If you are interested in the story, you'll find it on my blog at yuwie.com/yuwie.asp?r=9289

It does sound horrible to me and since I'm deathly afraid of spiders I think I will stay away from you blog!

Oh yes especially the one's that feel so real and when you first wake up it takes a moment to realize it was a dream. Those seem to haunt me for a couple of days.

Some nightmares stay in my mind for days if they are real scary. Most of the time I get nightmares when the room is too hot and I am sweating in my sleep.

I've heard that if we have a very uncomfortable sleeping condition it can lead to nightmares.

I discussed this awhile back because I have had nightmares and night terrors since I was a child. I still get them(though not as frequently). Sometimes they linger in the corner of my mind for days after.

Night terrors are a horrible thing for a kid to have to experience. I know my grandson sometimes has them.

I had a nightmare the other night and it was aweful. I woke up my husband and had him hold me but as soon as I feel back to sleep I dreamt my husband wouldn't let me go and become the person in my dream. How scary is that. All that night when I feel asleep I kept getting back into the dream. Then in the morning I was afraid of being alone. And the next night I was afraid to sleep. It was really bad. I hadn't had a nightmare like that in years.

Now that is a scary dream. I hate when it carries right into the moment and it puts the other person in it too. I would have a hard time sleeping for days over that one!
