Do men really enjoy shopping when women ask them to go shopping with them?

A little light-hearted topic. Did you noticed that a lot of men, be they husbands or boyfriends, tag along with their other (or better?) half when they do shopping? Have you ever wonder why? I think men generally hate shopping but they go along to please their wife or girlfriend. When women shop for clothes, they just stand there looking at the ceiling and occupying space was what someone said. Tell me, how many men really enjoy the experience? And how many give constructive opinion, like "does this pink shoes goes well with my lipstick?", or something like that. Personally, i quite hate shopping but i do go along if my better-half ask me. What do the guys have to say and if you're a woman, your thoughts are most welcome too.

I think they hate doing that. I hate making company to someone who is going to shop, and I am a woman. I can imagine how boring that could be to a man.

Aha, finally a woman who doesn't like shopping. Then you have to find a man who enjoy it so that he could do it for you?

Well I will have to say this depends on the man. I've known some guys that really like to go shopping with their wife/girlfriends. They like to have outfits modeled for them. And some like picking out what their spouse will wear or what he thinks they will look good in. My husband on the other hand, doesn't care for it. He will go along sometimes but honestly he is just bored. I have a better time going alone or with one of my girls. May as well let him have some free time too if I'm off shopping :)

After reading all the comments here and replying to them, i realised that women want their partner to shop with them mainly because they want some opinions or advice about the things they intend to buy. And help carry the bags at the same time. Please correct me if i'm wrong. It's been an eye-opener really. Thanks so much.

It makes me laugh to think and see this in malls. I also ask my husband to accompany me buying dress, shoes or any or my personal belongings. Sometimes we shop for so many hours. The first minutes he will help me choosing. Saying that, that is best for you or he will find another one for me. Well, it makes me happy to hear his comments. Later, especially when we already shop for more than two hours he will got bored and start complaining that his leg is aching or he still have to go to his office. I sometimes pity boys. But most of us women are like that. We love shopping for longer times.

Maybe his legs are really aching and he still has a lot of work at the office. I think it would be nice not to pity us boys but try to understand us as men. And generally men do not like to shop for long hours. Thanks for your views, Marymarj2002.

That depends, if it is for shoes then no, that always seems to take twice as long as it ever should.

Hey, you could be right. We do love to check things out at the store, especially if that "thing" happens to be someone as good-looking as you :-) Thanks for writing.

My husband often comes shopping with me, just to give his opinion. But we don't often do a lot of shopping in one day - we usually just need a specific item, like a pair of running shoes, and we go looking for that item. He doesn't like shopping a lot - it's not like this is an activity he'd suggest to his friends - but he's okay with it, so long as I don't ask him to carry my bag, and we eat lunch out.

Men really dont enjoy shopping, that too with a woman. Women take long time to select the required products. They go on changing the selected items. Men find it difficult, because they have to spend the time and the money for the women

I guess women does take a long time to select their products. They need a lot of advice from their partner, if possible. That's why men find it difficult sometimes but if it's time and money for a loved one, why not?

It seems that most men feel bored when they go shopping with women. They think it's a hard work. They feel very tired to walk for a long time but buy nothing. Sometimes women just like to go around. Men think it is just wasting time. Besides, men tend to buy something directly when they go shopping. They feel very tired when women always ask them the products. In order to finish the shopping as soon as possible, they are likely to say it looks great etc. Women like to have a company with them when they go shopping, and men are the good choice:) I also like to go shopping with my husband, but he is not so interested in it very much.

Your comments are very amusing and very accurate for the most part. You have sum up neatly what men and women really feel when it comes to shopping. I would certainly say the dress look great on my wife to speed up the process :-) You are so right on.

Sometimes, to keep harmony in the home (not have to sleep on the sofa), we do a lot of things we don't really want to, but what the heck? Better than talking to yourself for the next year.

Haha, that was really funny. You have a great sense of humour there. No man likes to sleep on the sofa and it's certainly no fun talking to oneself. Thanks for your short and funny comment.

No, I would just a soon take a beating, when I shop I like to go in get what I want and leave, unless its a good sporting goods store. Not many women care any thing about spending a half day in Bass Pro, same as No man cares anything about spending a half day in womens clothing or whatever.

You know, i tend to do that too because my wife said so. She said i destroy her mood by complaining and not giving good advice. I'm working to change that.

I can't say I have come across many men who like going shopping unless it is in a hardware store, I did have a good friend that I liked going shopping with but he was gay so it was more like going out with one of the girls.

Most men like the same things like games and electrical hardware, electronic gadgets, cars, things that show they're "men". Do you personally know any straight men who likes shopping?

No, they just don't enjoy shopping when they are dragged into it. I have seen my dad go berserk when my mom used to ask him for shopping, but dad's got no other option than to take her shopping, and always he goes in a bad mood, but returns happy faced most of the time, coz my mom's also clever enough to let him shop on the other side of the malls where his interests are stacked. This way, both return home happy...

Your mom must be good at keeping your father happy. Some women simply shop for themselves and forgot about their partner. If every women could practised this, then everyone would be happy. Thanks for sharing.

I know my husband doesn't enjoy it as much as I do too but he make sure he's always with me when I go shopping except for very rare times that I ahve toi be with some of my girlfriends. He bears with me when I try on too many clothes, or when I have a hard time choosing the best color, or deciding which bag to buy. I think, he's doing it our of his love for me and the bonding we get for spending that time together..and most of all he love to be with me when I shop because he knows I'll treat him with a good lunc or dinner afterwards. :)

From your words, i gather you have an understanding and loving husband. Good for you. Do you always treat him to lunch or dinner when you're both shopping together? I think i'll get my wife to do the same :-)

This discussion will probably get many responses from both men and women! There is a saying that women shop but men buy things! It is unanimous that all the men I know hate to go shopping with their wives for clothes and shoes, even the men who love to share the shopping experience at a supermarket. It is something about the time. When women shop for clothes the time passes very quickly so that it is easy to lose track of time, but when men are tagging along, for them the time stops and they think they have been in the store for an hour when it was only 10 minutes. If I have $100 for every time my husband has said, "Just buy it!" I probably wouldn't have to spend nearly as much time comparison shopping...ah, but it is fun.

Probably not but what responses i get, i will reply to them. There's a saying that goes: women buy things too and men paid for them. Actually, it's my saying that is. Time is a relative thing. When men are shopping for clothes or shoes with women, 10 minutes seemed like an hour for them, true. But when men are looking at the coolest gadgets (only they will think it's cool), they will think only 10 minutes has passed when in fact two hours has gone from their life. And your husband said "Just buy it" without asking about the price? Hmmm....Thanks for commenting.

well man. i know what you are talking about. my girl enjoy shopping very much. she can stay in a shopping mall one day.i am so suprise she has that ability. but to me,i hate shopping coz i feel exteremely boring. i just cant understand why she can shop all day. you buy what you want and leave and that is it!!i dont find anything enjoyable when i am in the shopping mall. so many times i tell her,why dont you go shopping by yourself, you will have more fun but she just wont let go. poor me! so every time when i hear:honey, lets go shopping, i will think: OMG, it is not a good day for me again.

Well, i think the reason women can shop all day is because they loved looking at those gorgeous clothes and beautiful shoes, and don't forget the handbags. Women like looking at those things even if they don't buy them. So, next time she asked you shopping with her, just persuade her to tag along to your favourite section. Then take your time to browse around. And lastly, as someone here wrote, ask her to treat you to lunch or dinner. Cheers.

I don't think men get angry with women just because they ask them to go shopping with them. Thanks for posting.
