My dog chews her toenails!

Every night before bed, Molly settles down to a 20 to 30 minute session of toenail chewing. And I mean she really gets too it! At least her nails don't get too long, but it's really annoying. And she leaves little 'gnawings' in the bed. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Is there anything like you get to put on kids nails to keep them from biting that would work on dogs?

My Pomeranian Talitha, toe nail biter! - She used to chew her own back toe nails and even tried to chew the toe nail on my big toe! She was a very strange little dog, but so sweet and loving!
I had a tiny black Pomeranian for 14 years and she always chewed her back toe nails. Not the front ones, just the back ones. I guess they were easier to get to! I don't think I ever had to trim her back nails. Sometimes it was annoying but I mostly just ignored it. It didn't work to stop it, she just went into another room and did it so, I didn't make a fuss about it. She was a good dog and she didn't get sick often so I guess it never hurt her, thank goodness! Sometimes she even tried to chew on MY toenails[on the big toe], the little nut! Now that, I definitely discouraged!

How funny! But think of the money you could save on pedicures!!!

my puppy is like that too. she's a 3 yr old jack russell terrier. She likes to bite her nails and it really annoys me specially when im next to her, what i do sometimes is hold her feet and so she would stop, i don't want her to get use to it, it just scares me also that she'll break all her nails and hurt herself.. i give her treats also so she'll chew the food instead.

Sometimes she really pulls on them! But she never seems to hurt herself or get them too short. She loves chewy toys, too, so maybe its more of a chewing thing than a nail thing.

Well this is the first I heard of nail biting but my dog likes to gnaw on the blanket until she is ready to settle down, and if I dont end up trying ways to stop her she can do it all night! We usually just give her a little pat and tell her no and she tends to learn after a few minutes most of the time but I guess try different little methods that you find work for you with your dog and I sometimes wish mine would chew her toenails they get incredibly long!

She'll stop as long as I pet her but then as soon as I stop she starts again!
