yesterday, we had a meeting about an office project. im part of that project but only as a support staff. but then, during the meeting, my boss told me she expects so much from me. she said because i had talents and skills and its a waste to be left as a support staff only. so she's like giving me an opprtunity. but with the words "I EXPECT A LOT FROM YOU". gave me the creeps. i got scared. i've experienced that when i was still student. being an above-average student, my family and relatives expected a lot from me. so i had to do good in everything. never had to fail an exam. i was pressured but then, i loved my school life so i pass it with flying colors. but with work? this is a bit different. its much scarier and there's much pressure. my work relies on her words.

Don't let it scare you too much Secret, have confidence in what you are doing. If it was me I'd be able to deliver (most times more than what the superiors were expecting). In fact its to the point I don't hear "I expect a lot from you", the superiors ask for help, or I give innovative input and then they just sit back and get astounded by my work. It is ultra awesome, to say the least :)

that's great if she gave you an opportunity so grab it. yes, it may be scary because you have to deal with pressure. you have to meet her expectation if not she might get disappointed. if you believe you can do it, then you can!=)

i couldnt really refuse to the job she gave me. but im not really complaining. the weight of her words are just d*mn so scary. it means, additional responsibilities, additional pressure, additional expectations and most importantly, it means the whole of my job, and my resume content. LOL but so far.. i think im doing okay. but im having backlog! i just couldnt keep up with all the assignments so im going to bring them home and work at home. T.T

My ex-boss always say this words to me" I expect a lot from you, you should pursue well and improve a lot".It was a shipping firm and i was into the finance department and my senior was very satisfied with my job work. I was learning different levels of job work related to accounts and i was a fresher at that time.My ex- boss who was looking after logistics , imports and exports wanted me to learn customs duty exemption, duty calculation and lot related to this subject.Hope he would have thought i had the capacity to learn this faster but till my tenure of 3 years there i never touched any of those books but cooperated with those staffs to learn the outline of that work.

Just take a deep breath and do the work. You can do it and you should do it. This are common words you will hear from people who are expecting a lot from you. By the way he expects from things from you means you can do it.

Hi Secret Bear, Don't be afraid of being treated highly in a Company, the workplace should be treated as totally different from the school, though someone said the social is a big school there. Pressure though you might have when you boss see high of you and expect more from you, but why not also regard it as a drive here? I believe, if you performance well by her assignment, you could be promoted soon. I've got some promotion experience here and have hired quite some employees, if he/she is not able to show what he/she could do, or if he/she is unwilling to make him/herself better, we wouldn't normally ask him/her to get it done there. So just be active and creactive, be more powerful and stand you foot strongly, you could be a perfect guy at your work by paying enough effort here. And surely you could get what you are owed here. Shape up and have a nice day! Andy

thanks andy. I'm now looking at it as inspiring words from my boss. LOL and besides, I couldn't really refuse so I just accepted it and now I'm doing it. ^__^ I have a lot more work now than before and I just wish I had more time for creativity coz I really need it. my job involves writing and I need some perfect time to use my creativity. I don't get that here in the office coz there's a lot of distractions and pressure. although there are times when I can really write here, I still prefer to write at home. ^__^ thanks for the encouragement, I hope i'll be promoted. ^__^ hehe..

yeah, i know how it feels. i think most bosses say that because they want us to feel worthy. but on our side, it pressures us because we want to please them. but somehow, it feels exciting, too. don't u think? exciting but scary.

If my boss tells me that she is expecting so much from me then I will be flattered but of course there is also a fear that I might not be able to meet her expectations. But it will serve as a challenge on my part to try hard to succeed. I will really do my best so she will be happy with me and trust me next time.

that's what im thinking of going to do. i will do my best. i just wish she'd be patient enough of my errors and mistakes. sometimes when she's in a bad mood, she's just so unfair to her employees. good thing its a no-no for her to be angry. it makes her blood pressure soar up. ^__^

You've just mention that you pass with flying colors because you love your school life and it's not purely pressured by family and relatives. Well, if you like your work, you can excel as well.

Pressures and Expectations are part of our daily life. Your boss telling you that words "I EXPECT A LOT FROM YOU" She only one you to give your best. All you have and your guts. BEcause she know you have the capacity that she needed and She believes in you. That words she said is a motivation inorder you to put your best on it. Don't be afraid but encourage yourself to prove to your boss that you are creditable. Go for it! Gud luck!

Secretbear(630) So, how's your project coming along? Hope everything is going smoothly and was able to eradicate those cobwebs inside your stomach. You can do whatever you want to do as you had the training as an above-average student then. Right? Just outline your operation flow, organize every step to take and weight every schedule you prepared. Consider disadvantages as compared to advantages. Learn to love your work as you have monetarial reward for every superlative task you will accomplish. It is either a promotion, increase of salary follows or a bonus. Whatever it is, it becomes a stepping stone for the next step to achieve and fulfill your cherished dreams and ambition. Best regards. call2bluff

It does put a lot of stress and pressure on me when my boss or coworkers say that to me. It is an honor to know that they trust me to do a good job but I would rather not hear it in person. I can usually tell if they expect a lot, especially if they come to me for many projects or favors. My boss does that to me a lot and puts a lot of her work on me to get done.

my boss wasn't like that to me before. I don't know what made her say that to me all of a sudden. and now she's given me a lot of work. and now I must be working but the rain is keeping me from doing it. LOL I'm just thankful that I can manage my time efficiently. I still can do myLot and finish some work at the same time. LOL

it is a good message and also a bad message to you. on the one hand,if you are a ambitious person, you can take it as an encouragement. you can do something and show your ability to your boss. While, on the other hand, it is a signal from your boss that she is not satisfied with what you have done. she wants your to take more responsibility. If I were you , I would interpret it in this way. Bad news or good news, it depends.

I'm not an ambitious person. I'm just happy with what's given to me. I don't expect more. if something is given to me, I tell myself to be contented with it. I just hate so much responsibility, I'm a happy-go-lucky girl. LOL yeah I guess... i'll just take it as a good news, like an encouragement and trust. ^__^

In some ways it could be a compliment. That she thinks highly of you and knows you do excellent work. Though it does put unwanted pressure on you. i say you just do the best you can and not bother with the fact that she said that. let it go in one ear and out the other.

I can understand how these words would feel like pressure to you....they would me too. At the same time...oh what an honour. Obviously your boss holds you in high regard and that should give you the confidence you need to do a great job. I would maybe talk to your boss about your fears and i will bet he can put them to rest. I imagine he was just trying to let you know how much he valued your work and KNEW that you would do a great job.

actually I felt flattered and pressured at the same time. but the pressure weighs more. ^__^;; I don't like too much pressure and responsibility. I don't have a lot of confidence to myself so I'm kinda scared. its hard to talk with my boss. she's sort of unapproachable, but she's kind. I'm just shy to talk to her about it. I don't like for her to think that its a big deal for me. ^__^
