I used to take Ambien. My problem with it was that I woke up after about 4 hours sleep and couldn't go back to sleep. That was with the old Ambien, though, not with the new extended release one they've come out with. I'm taking Lunesta now and I really like it. It gets me to sleep fast and I stay asleep and don't feel hung over and tired the next day. My only problem is that I'm like a little kid and fight going to bed at night and put off taking it. When I take it I have to have 8 hours of sleep or I can't make myself get up, so I don't take it a lot of nights because I wait to long. It's great though if I can just dicipline myself to go to bed at a decent hour.

I use to have trouble going to sleep up until about a month ago. I use to just take the advil pm's and they seemed to work ok. I don't know what I'm doing differently now that I can fall asleep so much easier but I'm not complaining, I use to get so frustrated.

As you know, you are very lucky! I never thought I'd have this problem. I've always been able to fall asleep very easily. I'm still really sleepy when I go to bed but my mind just won't turn off long enough for me to actually go to sleep without my sleep medication.

I took Trazadone prior to the Lunesta. My doctor prescribed it because he thought it would help with both my anxiety problem and my sleep problem. He was right, it was great. My only problem with it was that I felt groggy all day long after taking it. I have a friend that takes it and she claims that it doesn't do that to her. I guess everyone reacts differently to it.

I have the same problems as most. I can't get to sleep at night and end up sleeping while my daughter is at school. Some nights I don't even get to sleep. I was using Ambien 10mg and still would wake up after about 2-3 hrs and not be able to get back to sleep. I have done the over the counter thing. some days I can sleep for 12 hrs straight and then be up to 2 days. It drives me nuts, because you never have energy. I have made an appointment to see a Dr that specializes in Sleep Disorders. I just have to wait til the first of the year because he is soooo backed up.

That's a long time to wait to get help. I was having the exact same problem you are did with Ambien by the way and have had the same sleep patterns as well -- sleeping for hours and hours followed by no sleep, etc. While you are waiting why don't you see if your regular doctor can prescribe Lunesta for you? Trust me it works so much better than Ambien. It both gets me to sleep AND keeps me asleep. It's an absolute lifesaver for me.

Yea I take sleeping meds, but they don't work. I will take it 2 hours before I want to be in bed, and I'm still awake until like 3 in the morning. When they do work, yea I have troubles waking up in the morning.
