Dreams and Nightmares

Do you think dreams mean anything? Lately I've been having a lot of horrible dreams. I've been going through a really rough period in my life and I'm wondering if my dreams are trying to tell me something. It worries me because something bad always happens to me in my dreams. They're so vivid and it really bothers me. So what do you think about this?

Nightmares serve an important service of showing us what's troubling you on deeper levels. Therefore, if you think about it, nightmares have a purpose. Sometimes within a dream is the key to the problem you're having, sometimes it shows why you're having the problem, you may think you know, but there may be another, deeper reason - or something simple you hadn't thought of. Trying to understand your dream by discussing it and analyzing it can help you resolve an internal conflict or personal difficulty or problem. What I used to do is pretend that I was a director in my dreams. I would yell, "Cut!" and then give the other 'actors' directions. I'm sorry you're going through a rough time. My good wishes are with you.

Thanks artemis, I know what you mean. You're very right. I guess right now I'm just trying to figure out my dreams mean.

The best interpreter of a dream, is the dreamer! For we dream in dream symbols. And no one, or book, can know exactly what each dream symbol means better than yourself,, who is using the symbol. We can ask ourselves, what are the main symbols? And then focus upon each symbol by asking "what does this symbol mean to me?" For instance I used to have a recurring dream about train cars or a train car, speeding dangerously down the tracks.. then I realized the train cars represented the trailer I lived in as a teen ager.. and certain events therein! When I resolved those events, the dreams became peaceful.. and the last one I had was a train car in a beautiful woods. The track had become overgrown.. and the train car was a beautiful home tucked into the beautiful landscape of lush trees.. Well, you'd have to be me to appreciate it, but I'm somewhat of a hermit (tho with lots and lots of friends!) but I've always wanted to live in the woods.. with nature right at my door.. - The question to ask yourself is, what are the main "symbols" of your dream(s)? They can be things, places, people, or even the things going on.. :)

Yes, I definitely believe we are trying to communicate something to ourselves through our dreams. I fancy myself a bit of a dream interpreter. My own dreams have helped me lots!

I don't know too much about dreams, but I believe there is some grain of truth to many of them. It can be a manifestation of your emotions. You should buy a dream interpretation book and see if you can figure out what your dreams mean. I had a friend that swore by hers.

I would really like to get a book like that. I'm very interested in dreams and psychology and stuff like that. :)

There was another thread about weird dreams and such. I spent a lot of my time helping others in it and interpreting the dreams. A few times they could be real literal, but most times they are symbolic to the subconscious (which spends its time solving problems you are having trouble with in real life) and you won't really know it until it finally hits you.
