Do you ever forget to turn on the burner or oven when your cooking?

I do. I just did it right now. I've done it more times than I should admit... I'm making meatballs in spaghetti sauce. I put them in the pot, put them on the stove, and forgot to turn on the burner. They were sitting there about 10 minutes before I realized it. I was sitting here doing myLot and went to stir it and found out I forgot to turn the burner on. Have you ever done this or am I alone?

Too many times to count and no you are not alone. I hate it when I do that but it is better than burning the food! I don't think I have ever forgotten to turn on the oven, but have forgotten to pre-heat it and when it was time to but the food in I had to wait till it got hot. The worse thing I forget is to turn off the VCR. If it is no turned off, I don't record my soaps and tyhat gets me very mad!!!!!!!

I realized after I started this discussion that my issue with the oven isn't so much remembering to turn it ON as it is turning it OFF after I take something out. There have been a few times when I, or someone else has noticed an hour later, that the oven was still on.

Yes, I did :o( Worst, I just damage a pot last week. I am boiling water to get ready to boil the potato. And, I totally forget about it. In the end, the pot dried up and the external of the pot suppose to be red. Now, it is BLACK!

I have an electric stove and unfortunately I forget to turn it OFF more often than I'd like to admit. One time I was boiling eggs and forgot...they exploded to the ceiling. Another time I was making iced tea on the stove and forgot...the WHOLE pot evaporated!

I dont forget to turn it on, I forget to turn it off. Since we have been in this townhouse I frequently forget to turn the oven off. That really annoys me to waste electricty that way. I dont forget to turn off the burner on the stovetop cause I can see the coils are hot. What is funny, is that I never did that where we used to live.

Yep. I forget to turn the burners ON and the oven OFF. I just turn the burner off when I'm done cooking. I don't know why it's easier for me to forget with the oven. I guess I'm using both hands to remove what ever I was baking and then I just forget the next step.

I have done the exact same thing countless times. Especially if I am busy with other things. Just the other day I left some water to boil and asked my teenager to let me know when it boils. About 10 minutes later he came out to me and whispered 'mom, it helps the water to boil if you actually turn ON the burner' So don't worry miamilady--you have company :-)

No, it did not happen to me yet because I always put on the burner before I place a pot on top of it. It only happens when we run out of gas. Maybe your present mind was preoccupied by something that you forgot to turn on the burner.

I've forgotten to turn off the stove and left it on all night long.I've also forgotten to take the cover plates off when I was heating a bottle of milk for my daughter and burnt the crap out the cover at 3 in the morning.I was so scared that I woke my parents up and the first thing they asked was what was on fire.Luckily no one got hurt.I guess that why I have a tendency to over check things now.

I've burned cover plates too. A few times. Eventually I just stopped buying them and using them. I don't think I've ever left a burner on overnight though. I'm glad nothing caught fire. Take care.

You are not alone. It is even worse when you think dinner is cooking and your husband asks if dinner is almost ready. Then it is not only YOU who thinks you are a goof! It seems like I do this about once a month.

I tend to forget to turn it on or off. I have never had an electric stove before so even if something got cooked, since I don't see a fire, the oven must be off!

You are not the only one there are many people who does that. I am also a very absent minded person and makes this mistakes many times and not only that i stay alone so there is no people around to warn me. There will be times when i get stuck in phone calls when in the middle of something in the kitchen and forgets about the kitchen and things gets messed up. So, i think its normal to do such mistakes.

When it comes to cooking, I do not do other things in case I forget above the stove. The only time when I can forget to turn on the switch is when I was cooking rice with the rice cooker. I on the switch but forgot to press the button to cook. It is only during dinner time when it was discovered the rice wasn't even cook. So whenever it is my turn to cook, my mum always double check the rice cooker.

Absolutely I have done this one and I can do you one more....I have turned the wrong burner on sometimes. Have the stew pot sitting nicely on the front burner and the back burner is cooking nothing...:}. I think if everyone is honest they have to admit to doing this at least once.

I've done that too. Reading this discussion, I've discovered that I've commited every kitchen disaster possible. lol With the exception of gadgets that I don't use, like the slow cooker.

No, you are definitely not alone! I have done this several times, usually it is because I am doing too many things at once. Talking on the phone or to my hubby, taking the dogs outside to let them run for a bit, in a hurry to get supper done to go somewhere. I have also planned a meal in the crock pot and got it ready in the moring while getting ready for work and have forgotten to plug the crock pot in. Lucky for me, my husband always checks things for me so he almost always catches my mistakes!

I guess it's one of the drawbacks to multi-tasking and hectic lives. It's good that your hubby's got you covered. Take care. Teamwork always makes things better.

It has happened in my house before but we were lucky that the doors and the windows were open - this helps in dissipating the gas and there was no major accident.

lol, you're certainly not alone, Miamilady. Earlier on tonight when I was cooking dinner, i forgot to turn the stove on, and when I eventually did, I forgot to take the cover off the burner, so it took forever to heat up enough to cook! I only realised my mistake when I was cleaning up! haha, slightly embarrassing, but I had a good little chuckle to myself =P You're just lucky that you realised after only 10 minutes, it's a lot worse when you forget to turn the oven on for a meal that needs slow-cooking. EEEK!
